After cheekily reviewing Ab-Soul’s latest offering, Do What Thou Wilt, last month, Lupe Fiasco flipped the script and critiqued his own album, DROGAS Light, which officially dropped Friday (February 10). Calling it the “only review of #DROGASLight that matters,” the seasoned Chicago MC rated his album a “7/10.” However, despite the lower rating, he does refer to himself as a “brilliant rapper.”
“[Fiasco’s] latest effort ‘DROGAS Light’ is somewhat of a mixed bag,” he writes. “It hosts a wide range of musical themes. From trap to disco to gospel with light touches of lyrical and technical skill from the MC. But while some may think the album is supposed to express his value as a rapper Lupe had something more ‘Live’ in mind.'”
He also adds that it’s more of a “refinement of ‘Lasers.’ Period,” a reference to his 2011 project. Throughout the rather lengthy review, he alludes that a lot of the material on DROGAS Light isn’t exactly recent. He said it’s full of songs “from the vaults” and that there are just “a few new pieces.” Toward the end, he reiterates DROGAS is coming in the next few months. Until then, bump the prequel here.
The first half of the album was incredible but I didn’t like the second half of it.
Thanks for your incredible opinion…

Lupe!!!!!! And great review!
Midgets always have BIG ego’s
I like the album I been bumpin it since Last night. I rate it a 8/10. Its definitely made for the car system
Don’t like Lupe over these trash trap beats. Couldn’t make it to the end.
GARBAGE.
Not a big fan of Lupe on the trap sound. I agree that it’s about a 7/10, first playthrough I thought it was a 5 though. It grew on me. The issue I have with his review is, if he knew it was a 7 then why put it out? Should be putting out what he believes is his best work, and if anyone has heard Mural they know he’s capable of more than what we got. Still like the album, but it’s probably his worst.
Well, I think it’s BBC he stated that they are a lot of older unreleased tracks with new ones thrown in. Plus, along the line of Lasers. And we know how lasers panned out lol. I don’t know. I think it’s cool he rated himself. I’m glad he isn’t one of those artists saying “yeah, I’m releasing a classic” then years down the line making excuses why the album sucked…Bc that happens. Just nobody cares to pay attention at that point.
Ok, so if it’s not that good, and not his best effort, why should ppl pay full price for something that he knows is not his best quality? I still love Lupe, he’s one of the best around. And Lasers was not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, I say maybe like 4 songs are terrible but the rest is actually good. However I don’t like that he makes an album, it gets delayed a year, he has time to reflect on it and give an honest rating but does nothing to bump that 7 to a 9 or 10.
I agree I love Lupe, but at this point in his career he shouldn’t be releasing questionable material. I understand he wants to warm his fans up to the real Drogas album but he shoulda just released that album instead of this. He coulda just released songs from Drogas Light individually as singles and kept it moving.
Didn’t this antisemite say he’d retired?
Hermione’s review: Lupe, have you no shame putting out such a terrible piece of work and asking people to pay dollars for it? You ain’t no average rapper you can do better. Wow this album is bad. Lasers is certified gold compared to this crap. 0 out of 5. Here’s your review. This album is on a mos def yassin last lp level. It makes you wanna kill yourself
i want nothing to do with lazers
It’s an incredible album! The sound is definitely mainstream as Lupe tackles trap beats with his intricate deliveries. As Lupe said, this is his LIGHT album, meant for enjoyment and if you like trap beats and good lyricism you will enjoy it. Lupe’s amazing lyricism ensures that the album is always interesting and the banging beats make it a thoroughly enjoyable product.
why didn’t put more effort into it if he knows it’s not good? come on
TRASH and he’s my fav rapper. drogas and skulls better be dope.
Ive been listening to it for the past 2 days now. It gets deeper after every round/listen. Tracks started to stand out on their own and I noticed the production on this album is very deep and solid. You can tell this by track 9 a lot. I always hear something new on every new round. The beats hit very hard and a lot of breakdowns. I wonder who did the production? BTW this album is meant for big speakers.
I like the album. I like the variety that exists in hip hop. Keep it coming lupe. Keep it coming Migos. Keep it coming kendrick Lamar, Kanye, chief Keith, all this shit is love. Just because some artists don’t make music I like doesn’t mean the entire state of hip hop is garbage. It’s when the entire hip hop community sounds polarized to one sound. We have multiple styles and sounds we can vary our collection with. I have no boundaries on what i listen to, unless I simply don’t like it. Some of you mofo’s secretly like trap and try to pretend you don’t to seem like you’re some type of hip hop enthusiast. Chill.
I just listened to this thing. WTF. Is this the same genius who made Tetsuo & Youth?? Some of these songs are TERRIBLE.
