Lupe Fiasco Claims Drake Is A ‘Better Rapper’ Than Kendrick Lamar

Lupe Fiasco has made a bold claim amid the ongoing rap wars and said that Drake is a “better rapper” than Kendrick Lamar.

Speaking on X Spaces with Aye Verb on Monday (April 15), the Chicago native admitted he has not heard Kendrick’s diss verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” but has listened to — and enjoyed — Drizzy’s response track “Push Ups (Drop & Give Me 50).”

When asked who is the better rapper between the two, Lupe replied without hesitation: “Drake.”

Verb then asked if Lupe thinks the 6 God is a better rapper “by a long shot,” to which he replied: “Not really. Drake got bars … so I would give it to Drake.”

He added: “I think Kendrick’s a better technically skilled performer but I don’t think he’s a better rapper.”

The Food & Liquor MC also said he doesn’t view K. Dot as a “dangerous” rapper when it comes to carving up opponents with his rhymes.

Elsewhere during the X Spaces, Lupe Fiasco offered a more detailed evaluation of Kendrick Lamar, saying: “I think he’s a great performer. I think he’s a great rapper. I think he makes great albums. I think he’s a great conceptualist. I think he’s a great mind. I think what he does for the culture is amazing. I love him to death. I do not think that he’s this amazing lyricist, though.

“And if I had to put a top 100 list together… the first 60 slots would be n-ggas that ain’t in the mainstream that n-ggas don’t even know. It ain’t finna be n-ggas with record deals. It’s gonna be all these battle rap n-ggas. When it comes to lyrics.”

He also pointed out that he doesn’t know Kendrick personally and has only met him “like one time.”

The “Kick, Push” rhymer also criticized J. Cole for his “7 Minute Drill” diss song against Kendrick, particularly how he attempted to drag his discography.

“Kendrick did so much for the mentality of young Black culture that to hear J. Cole talking about, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly ain’t shit, DAMN. ain’t shit,’ and he’s looking at what those albums actually mean to people?” he said.

“He doing some white folk, some Ku Klux Klan make-them-eat-their-own shit. You would never hear me talking down on his albums.”

Lupe previously stirred controversy in 2018 when he claimed that Kendrick Lamar is “not a top tier lyricist” and his “Control” verse was “super overhyped.”

He later appeared apologized for his comments, saying: “Maybe I should have just left it alone. Even though my impetus was the ‘Control’ verse … I apologize for even engaging and talking about n-ggas’ careers. I’ll never do that shit again.”

After his apology resurfaced in the wake of J. Cole’s recent controversial olive branch to Kendrick, Lupe set the record straight on his own retraction.

“Relax yo… I wasn’t apologizing to him lol,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “I was sorry about the entire shindig because it was such a waste of time and energy in something that had nothing to do with me.”

He added: “Keep my name clean… I fear no rapper of any kind or on anytime… K dot solid but y’all need to chill lol.”

    1. With Ease Kenny does not want these problems he will get the popular vote but bar for bar Lupe killing Kenny

    2. I agree 100% I can’t get anybody who loves Kendrick so much to point out the actual BARS that are supposedly so amazing in this dis songs. The Control verse or the “Like That” verse. Some of it sounds amateur as hell. If Big Sean or somebody like that said that same verse people would be clowing them for lines like “Clickin up but they can’t B Legit no 40 water.” Or the Andre 3000/stick reference. People would laugh their ass off at those lines if it was somebody else. The only impressive bars to me was the Dogs/K-9/Pet Semetary thing. But his delivery is so awkward to me that it cancels it out. I respect everybody’s opinion. I just don’t understand the props he gets. In the 1990s Kendrick would be considered a respected “backpack” rapper selling 150,000 copies every times he comes out like Kweli or somebody. He wouldn’t be in any conversations about being the best in the game.

      1. It was basically because he said people’s names. No one on that level of the game had done that since Jay-Z and Nas when he did Control. The Like That thing was basically because he had fallen off and it was his way to get back into the conversation. Neither of them are memorable and were wack in the way of where they were borne from. He did Control the same year he was all over Cole’s second album, had just appeared on Drake’s second album, and Cole had given him a hit when he produced that one song with him. I’m still trying to figure out this new world where dudes work together and then diss each other right after leaving recording sessions together, and you have cornballs legit bigging that shit up.

    3. He’s right. Kendrick dik riders massively over hype everything he says. That control verse was the most over hyped verse I’ve ever heard.

    4. Stop it, I like Lupe but stop it please, nobody is buying that. Kendrick is light years ahead of Drake and everybody knows it.
