Lizzo has made a career out of flaunting her curvaceous body no matter how many people shame her for doing so.
On Monday (October 11), the Grammy Award-winning singer attended Cardi B’s dancehall-themed party at L.A. River Studios to celebrate her “Rumors” collaborator’s 29th birthday.
Par for the course, Lizzo turned heads with her ensemble, which consisted of a glittery purple, see-through dress, pasties and presumably thong underwear. Unsurprisingly, her appearance was met with mixed reactions — from harsh criticism about her weight to unbridled praise.
But as typical for Lizzo, she wasn’t bothered by the negativity — at least not this time. The 33-year-old chanteuse had an out-of-character moment in August when she broke down in tears over the disparaging comments she received in the wake of the “Rumors” video.
Going live from her bathroom, Lizzo confessed she was struggling with the online bullying, saying at the time, “Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back. It’s like it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world, you’re still going to have people who have something mean to say about you.
“And for the most part it doesn’t hurt my feelings; I don’t care. I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower. I’m more sensitive and it gets to me.”
Lizzo refused to specify exactly what the messages said, explaining, “I’m not even going to say them, to give them power.”

She added, “People saying shit about me that just doesn’t even make sense. It’s fat-phobic, and it’s racist and it’s hurtful. If you don’t like my music, cool. If you don’t like ‘Rumors’ the song, cool. But a lot of people don’t like me because of the way I look.”
But Lizzo had plenty of support from peers such as Offset, Cardi B, T.I. and The Game who all believe she’s beautiful the way she is.
