Lil Yachty has been confirmed as the special musical guest for April’s live taping of Saturday Night Live which will air on NBC.

On Sunday (March 12), SNL’s Twitter page posted its widely recognized pinboard artwork, featuring both Lil Yachty, and Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson. Lil Yachty will handle the performance duties while Abbott Elementary creator and Emmy winner Quinta Brunson will host the show.

Lil Yachty reposted the artwork to his nearly 11 million followers with the caption: “@nbcsnl April 1st.”

Past rap performers on Saturday Night Live include, Lil Baby, Jack Harlow, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Lil Yachty’s name has reverberated across the news wire for multiple reasons as of late.

On Thursday (March 9), Lil Yachty told Twitter that he’s thinking about not doing interviews anymore because he’s feel as if he’s “misunderstood.” “I think ima all around just stop doing interviews, because the things I say are never understood as intended,” he tweeted.

On Wednesday, (March 8), Lil Yachty expressed his admiration for Tyler The Creator and his desire to do an album with the rap superstar in a cover story for Billboard.

“I would love to do a project with Tyler [The Creator],” Yachty told the outlet. “He’s the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it. He’s so confident and I have so much respect for him because he takes me seriously, and he always has.”

Earlier this year, Yachty was forced to explain himself after getting a ton of backlash for saying that he wanted to move away from having the “mumble rapper” tag attached to his artistry.

At a January listening party for his eccentric rock-inspiredLet’s Start Here album, Yachty explained how important it was for him to make an album that will allows fans and listeners to see his musical abilities from a different perspective.

“This album is so special and dear to me,” he said. “I think I created it just because I really wanted to be taken serious as an artist, you know? Not just some SoundCloud rapper, not some mumble rapper, not some guy that just made one hit.”

He added: “I wanted to be really taken serious because music is, like, everything to me. I respect all walks of music, not just rap and Hip Hop. Everything. So I think I wanted to make something to show the world just how great it was to me.”
