Lil Yachty has long respected Tyler, The Creator’s artistry and the two have collaborated in the past, but Lil Boat wants to go a step further and make a full project with the Grammy-winner.
The eclectic rapper recently opened up about his hopes to do a joint project with Tyler in an all-encompassing cover story with Billboard surrounding his psychedelic rock album Let’s Start Here.

“I would love to do a project with Tyler [The Creator],” said Yachty. “He’s the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it. He’s so confident and I have so much respect for him because he takes me seriously, and he always has.”

Tyler was one of the talented music dignitaries that Yachty played the album for before feeling confident enough to release it to the fans. In addition to Tyler, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Post Malone, Drake, Cardi B, Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky all heard the project early and gave him the added confidence to go full steam ahead.

Yachty is feeling free creatively and the 25-year-old boldly dismissed all of the projects he’s released prior toLet’s Start Here.

“Fuck any of the albums I dropped before this one,” he candidly stated. “I came into music in a time where rap was real hardcore, it was real street. And a bunch of us kids came in with colorful hair and dressing different and basically said, ‘Move out the way, old fucks. We on some other shit.’
“I was young and I didn’t really give a fuck, so I did do things that may have led people to the assumptions that I was a mumble rapper or a SoundCloud kid or I don’t appreciate the history of Hip Hop.”

Yachty is no stranger to the art of collaboration, as the malleable Quality Control signee contributed to Drake’s Her Loss project and told Billboardin 2018 he had completed joint efforts with Trippie Redd and Juice WRLD, which were never released.
He previously worked with Tyler on a couple of tracks as well, including Lil Boat 3‘s “T.D.” featuring A$AP Rocky and Tierra Whack in 2020.
