Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter VI’ First Week Sales Projections Are In

Lil Wayne finally released Tha Carter VI last Friday (June 6), his first solo album in five years.

While the project has not received the best of reviews from fans or critics, it is currently on course to sell 110,000 equivalent units in its first week on sale.

35,000 of that number is made up of actual sales.

If projections hold, Tha Carter VI will debut at number two on the Billboard 200 with country star Morgan Wallen holding on to the top spot.

In comparison, Wayne’s last solo album, Funeral, debuted at number one and sold 139,000 equivalent units in its first week of release.

It is also a significant drop off from Tha Carter V‘s opening week sales of 480,000 in 2018.

Tha Carter VI was perhaps most notable for its eclectic features which includes U2 lead singer, Bono.

The two link up on the anthemic “The Days” which was previously debuted during a promo for the NBA Finals.

On the track, Wayne references his status as an elder statesman in Hip Hop, rapping: “I ain’t getting younger, but I’m getting better / No time to waste that’s another man’s treasure / They say every dog has hit day.”

While Bono, who has previously worked with Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West, sings: “The time of our lives / The time of our youth / We bow down to beauty and truth / These are the days.”

The 19 track project features an array of guest artists including 2 ChainzKodak BlackMachine Gun Kelly and Big Sean.

Tha Carter VI also features more eclectic artists such as opera singer Andrea Bocelli, country star Jelly Roll and Fugees legend Wyclef Jean.

Despite Tha Carter VI seemingly failing to live up to expectations, Wayne still has a fan for life in Justin Bieber.

On Instagram, Bieber uploaded screenshots from a FaceTime call with Lil Wayne.

Posting a picture of him dialling his “I’m the One” collaborator, Bieber wrote: “Checking in with the [goat emoji].”

Wayne also posted a screenshot of the video call on his social media and intimated that it had been an emotional chat with the oft controversial pop star.

Weezy wrote: “It’s a painful walk but we got each other [love heart emoji].”

    1. Really was disappointed with this album. It’s barely subpar. The beats on this album are horrible.

    2. you have an album drop from Aesop Rock, the lyrical GOAT, get not a mention, but this site/culture pumps mediocre material. Real rap not found here

    3. I havent heard it yet. But Wayne is OG already. OG fans dont consume music the way the industry wants us to. We dont do streaming and many of us dont even do headphones. So dont expect a Weezy album to turn the profits in turned 15 years ago when people pĺayed CDs in cars and radio stations attracted younger listeners. Streaming might have saved the industry for the labels, but it lost an entire generation of fans. Now we just casually use youtube and hardcore fans will download MP3s to play in the whip. Billboard should just go away. Its pointless in this era.

      1. Nothing but the truth. It’s been pointless at least 10 years, maybe longer. Like what you like. music is free, and the industry reflects it in how little effort they put into making it now. How in the hell do you track what people are listening to. Because you certainly can’t do it through those fake streaming numbers. I would love to say losing profit for sales tanked the quality, but the quality had started going down even before the peer sharing era and was cooked well done by the time streaming came around. Artists just lost their way.

      2. If Wayne fans say it’s trash, it’s trash stupid. Wayne can record whatever he wants but his fanbase has final say once he releases it to the public.

    4. Tha Rebirth VI is still one of the worst albums of all time and Nicki’s busted ass dropped a wack verse.

    5. IT SEEMS TO ME LIL’ WAYNE WITH HIS FEATURES GOING DOWN POP MUSIC MADE FOR RADIO CONTENT I HAVE HEARD THE NEW ALBUM I AGREE NOT VERY DESIRABLE NOT MUSIC I WANT TO HEAR A LOT OF PEOPLE BLINDSIDED BECAUSE WE EXPECTED MORE ESPECIALLY FOR A CARTER ALBUM SOME PEOPLE WILL LOVE IT HOWEVER NOT HOW YOU WANT TO GO OUT WHEN YOU START TALKING RETIREMENT

    6. No Drake, No Nikki, No Baby, No hot boys, this album is such a joke. This albums done around some yes men
