Lil Wayne, Rick Ross + Conway The Machine To Appear On AZ’s ‘Doe Or Die 2’ Album

More than 25 years after the release of his platinum-selling debut album Doe Or Die, Brooklyn rapper AZ has finally announced the long-awaited sequel — and he’s called on a bevy of big names to help him extend the series.

Arriving on September 10, Doe Or Die 2 boasts a star-studded supporting cast across its 13 tracks. Guest appearances come from heavyweights such as Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and T-Pain, as well as underground favorites including Conway The Machine and Dave East.

There’s even a cameo from actor/rapper/DJ Idris Elba, who’s best known to rap heads for playing Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire.

Meanwhile, the album’s production is handled by top-tier beatsmiths such as Pete Rock, The Alchemist, Bink!, Rockwilder, Buckwild, Heatmakerz and Czarface.

“It’s been a decade since I released a full body of work, but Doe Or Die 2 is just what the doctor ordered,” AZ said. “With the help of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T-Pain, Alchemist, Conway The Machine, Dave East, Pete Rock, Bink!, Buckwild, Kaygee, Heatmakerz, Rockwilder, Baby Paul and a few others, I’m going to deliver an entree like no other.”

To whet fans’ appetites even more for the impending album, AZ has also shared the first single, “The Wheel,” featuring R&B veteran Jaheim. Over a driving drum loop, the BK MC showcases the lyrical dexterity that put him on the map in the ’90s.

Doe Or Die 2 serves as AZ’s first studio album since 2009’s Legendary. The Brooklyn rapper broke out in 1994 with a standout verse on Nas’ Illmatic track “Life’s a Bitch” before releasing his own classic record Doe Or Die the following year.

AZ also formed the supergroup The Firm alongside Nas, Foxy Brown and Nature (and formerly Cormega), releasing their sole self-titled album in 1997. The trio made a surprise return on Nas’ 2020 Grammy-winning LP King’s Disease.

    1. SMH. Lil Wayne and Officer Ricky? Another rapper selling out. This is why I stick to old school hip hop and underground and Memphis hip hop. Why does Rick continue to get a pass from old school great rappers? The man is basic as hell even at his best, I’ve even seen some people calling him “lyrical” lmao.

      1. Nah AZ and Ross has the potential to be absolute fire. And the fact that Conway is also on the track makes me think Wayne is gonna bring it.

    2. Lil Gayne’s wack ass voice will fuck up any song he gets on. Like, can you imagine lil gayne’s high-pitched voice on Illmatic, Doe or Die, the Infamous, Enter the Wu: 36 Chambers, All Eyez on Me, Life Stylez ov da Poor and Dangerous, Capital Punishment, Ready to Die, etc? No, you can’t! Because his ass would’ve gotten laughed out of the house of hip hop if he came out in the 80’s or early 90’s!

    3. All the “real hip hop” fans ain’t gonna be too pleased with the features for a sequel to a
90s album. Oh, but Lil Con X is on there, lol.

        1. Upon release, Doe or Die received notable critical and commercial success. The album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200,[1] and #1 on the U.S. Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.[2] Doe or Die produced several singles, including, “Mo Money, Mo Murder,” “Gimme Yours (remix),” “Doe or Die” and “Sugar Hill” – which was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1995.[3] The album went on to sell over a million copies[4]

      1. You should do better research. Sugar Hill went Gold as the single, and the album did go platinum. They did a documentary on it 5yrs ago. That’s common knowledge. Now, he didn’t get nothing afterwards and went underground, but he had a classic debut, which is more than most.

    4. If N.O. Joe isn’t producing at least a few tracks like the debut then not expecting something high par. Need to be proven wrong.

      1. Well if you heard the album then you were certainly proven wrong. This album is one of the highlights of 2021.
