Kid Cudi has issued a reminder to fans about his influence on Kanye West‘s 808s & Heartbreak, seemingly in response to being snubbed by West in a new interview.
On Friday (March 15), Cudder took to X (formerly Twitter) where he shared an excerpt from his own Wikipedia page, detailing his influence on Ye’s fourth studio album, 808s & Heartbreak.

The excerpt read: “Kid Cudi’s sound is what inspired and led Kanye West to create his cathartic ‘808s & Heartbreak’ (2008), with West later stating he and Cudi were ‘the originators of the style, kinda like Alexander McQueen is to fashion… Everything else is just Zara and H&M.’
“West also complimented Cudi by saying, ‘His writing is just so pure and natural and important.'”

The post comes in the wake of West’s remarks claiming credit for having “invented every style of music” of the past several decades.
“I invented every style of music of the past 20 years. I created this genre. I created Weeknd’s genre, Trav[is Scott], Drake. I’m gon’ head & say, with all love, Future & [Young] Thug also… because the autotune album,” he began in a video snippet from a recent appearance on Ahmed’s The Ears podcast.

The Lonely Stoner has writing credits for four tracks on West’s 2008 classic: “Welcome To Heartbreak” (on which he is a featured artist), “Heartless,” “Paranoid” (where he sings backing vocals as well), and “Robocop.”
In 2008, Cudi signed to West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint and despite a string of fan-favorite collaborations, he and his former mentor have not been on the best of terms in recent years.

However, all seemed to be on the up-and-up after the Kids See Ghosts duo were seen late last year hugging it out at a listening party for Ye’s Vultures album.
Shortly after, Cudi also shed light on how fences were mended between the duo, citing a sincere apology from West.

During an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, he said: “The reason we became cool again is he apologized to me. And it was sincere. I was like, ‘Wow, Kanye does not apologize to anyone, he doesn’t say sorry to anyone.’
“That’s my brother man, I know he loves me. There’s just nothing like Kanye and Cudi. We [are] the duo everybody loves to see.”
Kid Cudi had previously said he would never work with Kanye again following their “Rock N Roll” collaboration on Pusha T’s 2022 album It’s Almost Dry.
“I did this song a year ago when I was still cool w Kanye. I am not cool w that man. He’s not my friend and I only cleared the song for Pusha cuz thats my guy,” Cudi wrote on X. “This is the last song u will hear me on w Kanye.”

Their falling out stemmed from Kanye cutting Cudi from Donda 2 due to his friendship with comedian Pete Davidson, who was dating Kanye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian at the time.
