Kid Cudi is quite proud of the work on his new album, and feels anyone who claims not to like it just simply aren’t on the right frequency.
Taking to Twitter/X on Thursday (January 18), the Cleveland rapper shared a review from someone who didn’t “see the appeal” of INSANO and offered up a direct response.
“Its ok if u dont like this one. But u are in the minority,” he said. “Idk if u noticed, but mad people have nothing but awesome things to say about the production, the songs, my energy, how happy I sound, all that. So to hear u say these things, it just lets me know ur not on frequency. And Like I said thats fine. But if were talkin opinions, I think ur dead wrong my friend.”
You can view the exchange below.
Released on January 12, INSANO serves as the follow-up to 2022’s Entergalactic, with features coming from Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Young Thug, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell and more.
In October, Cudi said on social media that INSANO would clock in at over 40 songs between its standard and deluxe versions and “have a wonderful cast of features that I’m sure [you] all will love.”
A collaboration with Pusha T, which Cudi previously said would be on the album, may be another track reserved for the expanded edition.
There’s no shortage of star power behind the boards, either, with the likes of Pharrell, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., WondaGurl, BNYX, Clams Casino and longtime collaborator Dot Da Genius handling production duties.
“This talented group of individuals helped me execute something next level,” he said ahead of its release. “I am so thankful to have worked w some really awesome folks, and next week u will all hear the magic we all created.”
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to promote the project, he revealed that watching Kendrick Lamar perform in Paris on The Big Steppers Tour made him realize what type of sonic direction he wanted to take.
“I was really at a place where I had a goal,” he said. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’ve done all these different types of albums, I’ve touched on all the different types of spaces creatively, sonically. What is the one thing that I haven’t accomplished?’
“And I was still in this place tryna figure out what that album would sound like. I was in Paris, I just finished my European run of tour and I go to see Kendrick. And this muthafucka, it blew my fucking mind.”
He continued: “I’m sitting there, I’m watching the crowd reaction from the beginning of the show ’til the end. People were in it, party mode, singing every fucking word. I’m not saying this doesn’t happen at my shows, ’cause it does. But all the way through, I don’t have that experience.
“I had this moment where I was like, ‘You know what? This is the reaction I want.’ I want people to feel good and it to be a joyous occasion when I’m performing.”
Dude isn’t on anybody’s top 5-10-15-20-25-50 lists
I like this album, think he done well with this one! Good beats and he sounds fresh again go Kid Cudi big up from 🇬🇧
Best cudi album of all time.! Funky wizard smoke yaaaaa heard
You must be gay because that’s the only logical reason for you liking this album. The entire album sounds like Cudi taking back shots while in the booth wearing a dress and moaning throughout the entire session. This album doesn’t just suck ass, it sucks the entire set of butt cheeks. ⏸️
Wow this comment is in the closet. As are half these comments lol. Detected big time.
Takes one to know one I guess. Thank You for pointing it out.
This is his best album since MOTM2.
You mean worst
It was a good project, would have been better if it was cut down to about 14 or 15 tracks. Carry on!!!
Would’ve been better if it was never released.
ImGayNow, ImGayNow, I’m gay now, boy.
Insano was disapointing to me.
Amen!!! Or in Cudi’s case: “Yay!!! Men!!!”
I like the album. His best since motm2 / passion pain and demon slaying
