Kevin Gates Responds To Backlash Over ‘Black Lives Matter’ Comments

Kevin Gates has addressed the comments he made towards the Black Lives Matter movement in the past, and it doesn’t look like he’s changing his stance.

During his interview with Akademiks on his Off The Record podcast, Gates reflected on the comments he made on the movement and revealed he doesn’t see color. He felt that way because of all the slack he gets online from Black people, and it doesn’t make him even want to feel a part of the culture.

“They got mad when I said ‘I don’t support Black Lives Matter’ ’cause who they matter to,” Gates told Akademiks. “We kill each other all day. We talk about each other all day. You know who talk about me the most on the internet? N-ggas. N-ggas. You know what’s worse than a n-gga? Two of them.”

He added: “Make you don’t want to be a n-gga. It be n-ggas my own people that look like me. Talk about me like a dog, kick me when I’m down. I don’t look at color and see race no more. I see real and fake. That’s it.”

Kevin Gates spoke on the BLM movement on two prior separate occasions. The first time happened in 2016 when he hopped on Instagram and posted a minute-long diatribe on why it didn’t make any sense to complain about social injustices against Black people because of Black-on-Black crime.

“We kill each other,” he started his rant. “I’m talking about we lay up under each other’s cars, lay behind each other’s houses then whip by, boom boom, kill everybody in the car…We kill each other, but as soon as a white boy kills one of us, everybody go to hoopin’ and hollerin’ and all that old stupid-ass shit … That’s bullshit.”

Kevin Gates On Toxic Masculinity: 'My Grandfather Was Nurturing & He Was A Monster'

He continued: “When you stand for something, you’ve got to stand for it all the way, not half way. I said it before, and I’ll say it again, and fuck who don’t like that. You know what’s worse than a n-gga? Another one.”

Kevin Gates even went as far as agreeing with Stacey Dash’s controversial comments about getting rid of BET during an interview he had with 106KMEL.

“They were like, ‘Stacey Dash said that it shouldn’t be no BET. Everybody should be Americans.’ And I was like, ‘If she said that, then I feel like I agree with that because there’s only two types of people in life: real people and fake people,'” Gates said.

    1. Kevin Gates is telling the truth. Black people enemies are black people. All this black love, unity, support, etc is fake. White people are not black people enemies. Black people hate black people. The hip hop community is a perfect example how blacks hate each other.

      1. this is stupid and you’re a troll. any group of people will kill each other when you take away access, institute laws to keep them without, among other things. white people that dont care about equality and hold power are black peoples enemies. a society that doesn’t give a fuck about anything but power, control and numbers is black peoples enemies. kevin gates is a backwards ass fool and it says alot if you agree with his dumbass.

        1. Black people hate black people. White people don’t care about black people. White people don’t want to live around black people

      2. The hip hop community is not the entire Black Community. Go to a Black Church on Sunday it is full…yes, we do have a problem with Black on Black crime, but we have a love for gangs in some of our communities, but Black on Black crime is about the same as White on White crimes

      3. Right. Theres no sub genre of rock music where rock artists brag about killing their opps and pissing on their graves. I dont think theres ever been an example of a rock artist killing or having someone kill another artist.

This happens like a dozen times or more annually in rap. Probably in chicago and NY rap alone.

    2. Uneducated ppl like him still haven’t gotten it through their heads that every race on this planet has a higher crime rate amongst themselves. White on white crime, Hispanic on Hispanic crime, etc is around the same percentage as black on black crime. We do harm to each other and if we get caught we do the time however when a white person or cop does a crime against us they go unpunished. Unfortunately some dummies still don’t understand the difference.

      1. Black people represent 11-12% of the population in this country, yet, black people commit the most crimes in this country, and most of the crimes black people commit are against other black people.

        1. Most of what you say is not true… Whites commit the most crime in this Country, because there is more of them, they have the highest teenage pregnancies, more Whites on welfare etc.. Now per capita, you are correct in some areas

    3. It’s crazy they don’t see color until they go mainstream. Rappers are the worst of the blk community you will sell out ur own people for a watch and a Bentley. So stfu about blk issue. You mother+++cker create it the problems. And profit off the so called blk on blk crime.

    4. 100% agree. I think BLM was a bad choice of name for the movement. When something “matters” it should matter all the time not just when its convenient. Change the name to something more specific that focuses on racist cops and the movement wont get shit on as much. The name BLM is like shooting yourself in the foot politically.

    5. I felt that there are only two types of people as well, real and fake but It would be ignorant to say that there are not race issues, there’s tons of them (slavery for 400 years, the holocaust) but I think things are getting better slightly as far as equality, (black people still get followed in stores for just being black) and there are still tons of stereotypes people act on. I don’t condone any of it but like mlk I have a dream my dream is that people don’t see color or race and just see people for who they are through their repeated actions. My point of view is from a “privileged white guy” perspective so privileged that i live check to check and didn’t get a dime from my parents when they passed. It’s all good tho, I love people from all races and if I don’t like u it’s not cuz of ur race. All that being said gates is wrong for voicing this opinion publicly, people won’t understand basically.

    6. African Americans are a weird group of people. Don’t know where to point the blame when it’s clear to everybody but them. If it isn’t themselves it’s the system. Pulled over? Racist. Get caught with weed? Racist. High crime rates? It’s the system. It’s the police. Too many single moms? Must be the system. Black on black crime rates? System. Low incomes and bad education? System. Not enough black businesses? Of course.. it’s the system. The list goes on and on. Meanwhile they got their own colleges, NAACP, National Society of Black Physicts, National Society of Black Engineers, National Association of Black Accountants, their own month, Black Expo, their own channels, their own award shows, National Urban League, Organization of Black Designers, US Black Chambers, the list goes on. Literally a black organization for every occupation. All of this help, but nope. Still not enough. Must be the system. Fix your communities. You are adults. This is 2022. Not the 1950s. As a black man living in the UK.. you guys are embarrassing. Racism is a thing in Europe too. We were slaves here too. Move forward and stop using this systemic racism bs as an excuse for every downfall or inconvenience in your life.

    7. He ain’t wrong though. People hate to hear the truth. BLM are bullshit. We NEVER take accountability for what we do. My community continually gets in its own way. It’s like dealing with children at times. It’s never us that’s the problem. All we do is fingerpoint. We are the worst for that. Just perpetual victims.

      1. Your comment is ignorant. BLM isn’t a group. It’s an ideology. We don’t just fingerpoint. We march. We fight for our rights. I’m not a victim bc I don’t sit back putting down bothers and sisters who are out here making moves.

    8. 100% facts blacks are blacks own worse enemies who does most of the black killings , who shows the most hate towards you when you try to move up in life. Whos quickest to look for a handout without putting in the hustle half the time to progress, who else once disagree over minor shh leaves to start their own church or organization then wonder why no progress. I support blm as in the lives itself but not that corrupt supremacist socialist organization of blm

      1. Go away white boy. Worry about your race going extinct, shooting up grocery stores/schools and dying from opioid addiction.

      1. 51% of murders are committed by 13% of the population. Stop the killing and you’ll get actual respect.

        1. Let me guess, that 13% is blk people? The percentage don’t change huh? Cause I’ve been hearing that same shit for 5-6yrs. Get something new

    9. Spot on with that. This is what black folks (as a whole) need to digest. It’s sad(der) to see blacks killing each other. We do it higher rates than police brutality. I’m actually more concerned with our neighborhoods because of our own kind, not actually the police.

    10. Black on black crime is a misnomer, people tend to commit crime in proximity to where they live, regardless of race.

        1. What reasons are there to kill? What B. Jackson
said is true. Most people aren’t going to travel somewhere to kill. It’ll be personal and likely be someone you know .

          1. The problem is that black people represent 11-12% of the population in the country, but commit over 50% of homicides. It should be 6-7% of homicides

    11. “And they say it’s the white man I should fear, but it’s my own kind doing all the killing here.” – 2Pac

      1. Hahaha I like that idea! How great would it be if all of his fans just started calling him that so much so that he has to change his name to Kevin Based.

    12. as bad as black people are to each other white racism still exists. i don’t think kevin gates is saying racism is fake he’s saying a lot of these people protesting don’t care about people in their own family will betray their own brother or son in five seconds claiming “he got the devil in him” or some such slave nonsense they taught us. unfortunately two bad things can be true at once

      1. Racism unfortunately exists for all races and groups of people on earth. Racism started off as tribalism where neighboring tribes at odds with one another world hate each other and come up with slurs and stereotypes for the other tribe. Then you get racism once humans started to travel and interact with people from far away and looked completely different than themselves and the other tribes around from where they live.

    13. the murder rate in some usa black communities has nothing to do with anti-black racism. Even though the actual numbers are high compared to the rest of society the people involved are all part of the same inner city gang subculture where it’s almost like a civil war. As a black man I’m not afraid that another black man is going to shoot me on the streets because I’m not involved in that specific culture. Even if I was a dealer or street cat I wouldn’t be concerned necessarily about random black dudes targeting me unless I was specifically part of that situation or lived in that part of town. As a black man I wouldn’t move to a USA ghetto in an unfamiliar city. I’d move to a nice neighborhood where I didn’t have to worry about random gang related assaults. the ghetto is a direct result of white racism

      1. What you’re saying is factual. You still can’t disagree with this guy though. I’m your situation and with your way of looking at things, the cops aren’t an issue either. He IS involved in gang:street shit because of his music. I appreciate you acknowledging it’s a different thing though. For some reason Americans love to lump specific demographics together. I’m sorry to say thins, but Neil DeGrass and Tiger Woods aren’t the same kind of black people as Kodak Black or Monster Cody. Same with Charles Manson and Tom Brady. Jusse Smollet and Common.

        1. there’s lots of black people who don’t want to acknowledge racism for whatever reason this is nothing new. in many cases it just makes sense not to see yourself as a victim just because persistence and hard work pays off for everyone lucky enough to be able to put in the effort to improve. i try to remain on the bright side of things. i know what it’s like to be treated unfairly and feel hopeless but i’ve also seen my situation improve through my own hard work and determination. still i was lucky enough to be able to continue. others circumstances aren’t as easily fixed

          1. Hell yeah that’s awesome for you! Most things in life only hold us back because we allow them to. With the right willpower and mindset almost nothing can hold you back or stop you from achieving whatever you want. We give power to things like words that can negatively affect us and hurt our feelings but once you strip it of it’s power and meaning it can no longer be used against you.

    14. I’m black/white, and have lived in the hood most of my life, unfortunately, but have really both sides of white and black, but also Hispanic, Asian, and Arabic culture in NY. Every race seems to have issues that are unique to them. For blacks, it’s a lack of conflict resolution skills, a devaluation of life (their own and others), a lack of respect for their environment, and a deep insecurity that leads them to an obsession with being ‘cool’. For whites, it’s a lack of being able to express emotions and feelings, an imbedded feeling of ownership, and a certain cut-throat deceptiveness that comes from corporate climb-the-ladder culture. For Hispanics, it’s religion-based fear and outdated superstitions with the old people, and fear of being ‘different’ and doing anything outside the box of what’s accepted in their community. All these problem, with every race, though perpetuated through young people, we’re bestowed onto them by generations before them. How do stop these issues from perpetuating? By talking about them from a place of understanding and compassion, and ROOTING fir each other’s prosperity and improvement, instead of acting like it’s some kind of gang war between races and we just wave out flag and put down other races. If you’ve never had friends of other races, then YOU are the problem. If you HAVE had friends of other races, then stop disrespecting them and yourself by insulting their race as a whole. Whether you like it it or not, we live in the same country, and all of our problems will eventually fall on each other. Are you an American or not? Then act like you’re rooting for the prosperity of ALL our people, and not just the ones in your little community. Peace.

      1. you have no idea what you’re talking about. people are people dude everybody’s different you can only know your experience you don’t know others experiences . sounds like you are projecting the voices in your head to whatever ethnicity. sound to me like a typical confilicted white rap fan who hates black dudes and always got something to say in the comment section

      2. Wow. We have this retardes need with a D and D name trying to sound profound again. I’m black and white. Shut up nerd. You’re 1000 percent off, don’t live in NY and are a weirdo white kid that’s doing some stupid cosplay shut in a comment section. Huge bag of sucks for you. There we go. No you have some attention.

      3. TLDR, nobody reading all that. You are the worst kind of person there is. Oh I am black and white, that means you truly don’t understand either side. Stop trying to preach some BS message. You might be black/white but you definitely are slow/stupid. Get fcked

    15. Black people still killing black people, and the lady that founded BLM turned out to be a thief and a fraud. Stop being sheep to everything you hear black people.

      1. lol everyone knows BLM was “founded” by the same weirdo millionaire dude that started Adbusters and the occupy wall street thing from 15 years ago. BLM means nothing to black folks and no one cares what happened to the money because none of it was donated by black folks

    16. So dude said what everyone knows is true and can’t admit because it isn’t PC. What Chris Rock said in a comedy special 20 years ago. What Richard Pryor spoke on 40 years ago… I’m guessing weirdo whites with purple hair are who have a problem with this. Most black people, like any demographic, are hard working folk who just want to care for their families and pay their bills. Hip-hop and street culture is what he is referring to. Obviously.

    17. the main difference in the usa is the cheap availability of handguns and the gun culture. in places like Kansas you can buy a 9mm for 300 bucks fully legal. Easy to sell that in Chicago for 500 and that’s where the trouble starts. in other countries there’s poor kids and gangs too of all races but they don’t have easy access to cheap guns and with the culture and media that surrounds it

      1. In other countries guns get bought from the black market and given to kids to fight their wars. Like the Vietnam war. Various conflicts in Africa. You make it sound like it’s easy just to blame gun manufacturers. Most of the guns used in high crime areas like Chicago are not acquired legally whether black market, or theft. This would be a straw man argument, but it’s just outright nonsensical.

        1. I guess since you’re an idiot who knows nothing of the world. in civilized countries you can get liquor at the corner store others now you can get weed as well. no one is rushing to sell handguns in their country. americans are violent and stupid across the board- either way the end is coming soon

          1. Oh?! Tell me how those things are civilized. I can tell what you vote for by your platitudes. Americans violent lol. You do know what goes in the shit hole known as Afghanistan right? Then ask yourself this; why is it that everyone and their mom trying to come in illegally? You don’t like it here you can go to Mexico, Venezuela, or hell; go to Canada. See how that goes for you.

          2. I’m someone who has lived half of his life and owns property in a “3rd world country.” Brazil. I’m a dual citizen. Guns are illegal in BR and there are FAR more homicides there than here. Also, look it up. 30,000 deaths a year from firearms. 15,000 of those are suicide. I’m comparison, 40,000 a year die in the US from tripping and hitting their heads. Maybe that will help you out shit in perspective with all of your “violent” bullshit. Yeah, we brought you electricity, the internet, vaccines and the Hip-hop music you’re on a website commenting on. Ignorant hypocrite ingrate. LOL. More people are killed in South Side Chicago alone a year than all mass shootings in the US combined in that same time period. Strange.

    18. Black lives matter is a fact. Just because somebody incorporated those three words for their own purposes, it does not negate the fact. That does not negate the value of any other person. It is simply a fact. Gates is an intelligent man and his position on this topic will be great for his bottom line…at this point in his career, green matters.

      1. Yeah, it’s kind of silly though. If Black Lives Matter, why is the focus on the police? 2 million black men in our penal system. They’re 65 percent of the prisons and 15 percent of the populous. Cash bail and plea deals are making it so black folk are staying locked up. Getting rid of bail makes it worse, there isn’t a middle term or ground. Cops killing black people is a drop in the bucket compared to gang violence and trap mentality. No one addresses it. This guy and Weezy do. People hate them for it.

        1. Yeah but yeah…Your stats don’t negate the fact: Black lives matter. If that makes you feel any kind of way, root that out yo spirit, PRONTO!!!

    19. I completely agree with what Gates said. BLM matters? Who does it matter to? They can kill each other all day long but when a white person kills one of them it’s a big ass deal!? ? Okay. Oh and what’s worse than one of them.. two of them. ,

Gates I stand behind on this . ,,?

    20. there’s a lot of people around who want to feel that others define themselves by whatever media movement that’s trending or whatever. nothing anyone can do about it if someone is in love with their phone and has decided that their phone is reality and so they don’t actually have to leave their mom basement. if you are stuck on BLM you don’t know any actual black folks. if you think black folks all have BLM memberships and go to the BLM hall every weekend for roll call – you don’t know any actual black folks. Lots of people in the comment section clearly don’t know any actual black folks and post what their phone tells them to post

    21. Jack-o-lanterns didn’t come about from being put over the heads of hung slaves. I’m not saying that wasn’t done at some point by someone but that wasn’t a regular occurrence. It started in Ireland with carved turnips to scare away evil spirits and when they came to America they continued the tradition with the pumpkins that we know today because they were native to America. It had nothing to do with slaves or hangings!

    22. Can’t criticize BLM as people find it ‘racist’ like it isn’t an organization ran by people who have already been proven to have taken donation money for themselves, their friends, and their families. But yes, lets just think of BLM as meaning ‘black people.’
