A recent episode of Hot 97’s Real Late show with Peter Rosenberg opened up with Kendrick Lamar and Eminem reciting their favorite Prodigy verses in honor of the late Mobb Deep member, who passed away in Las Vegas last week at the age of 42. As expected, the Hip Hop community continues to mourn his passing.
In honor of the legendary MC, Eminem spit lines off 1995’s The Infamous track “Survival of the Fittest” while Kendrick Lamar rapped the words to “Genesis” from Prodigy’s solo 2000 project, H.N.I.C.
“I just want to say rest in peace to Prodigy,” Em said after wrapping up his favorite verse. “We love you, homie. Hip Hop loves you. You will forever be missed.”
Rosenberg dedicated the entire show to Prodigy, paying homage to the legacy he leaves behind.
Listen to K. Dot and Em’s tribute to Prodigy below.
didn’t bother to listen but i bet Em had to go thru a whole lotta verses to find one that doesn’t have the n-word in it.. him being white and all means he can’t say it
Lmao exactly i’m pretty sure he has another favorite verse aside from the obvious Survival Of The Fittest. Still a nice move tho.
or eminem is pretty smart i’m sure if that word came up in a line he would just not say it.. lol because that’s never happened before
Young heads and rappers take note. This is a real mc, Rhymes.street stories, no dumb ish no repeating dumb lyrics about taking pills and lean. Rip bandanna bannan clip p. One of the best ever. He has more memorable lines than any rapper period. Rip Dunn.
I ain’t even a fizzan of drake g4y a55 but even HE git a pass. Drake ain’t overraided liek deez tw2 REAL Hom0z Kendicc G4ymar and Feminem. Ware da tribute wen dude wuz breathin? Fuccin wacc wigger. Why it ain’t a song wit u and dude??? Dizzamn mane deez fa66ots really on sum publiccity stunt chit. Lil chit stain Gaymar and wacc wigger dat be rhymin sum ol BULLCHIT for his whole career real spit doe.
After trying to decipher that train wreck of a comment, I think you’re trying to say where were Kendrick and Eminem’s tributes when he was alive? Eminem had 8 Mile where Shook Ones and Survival of the Fittest were used, and Kendrick has said that Prodigy was one of his favorite rappers before and his first ever mixt.@pe was called YHNIC. I need an aspirin now..
Here’s a tip: If their user name is spelled stupid, don’t bother reading their comment.
Im still speechless i wish it wasn’t true.
2 people who never had any association with late great Prodigy. Give the people what they want I guess. Let Eminem and Kendrick cash in on a true hip-hop legend’s passing.
Do you realize that Eminem used verses by Prodigy in his 8 Mile movie? Many artists have showed their sympathies for the passing of Prodigy on Twitter and on other sites, but of course when Eminem and Kendrick show sympathy, they’re doing it “for publicity.” Quit hating.
plus prodigy was signed to g unit which was signed to SHADY aftermath so yea he actually had a big association with prodigy dummy
More proof that Em lives and breathes hip hop.
It’s tough to pick an ultimate favorite because P has many classic verses. But one that sticks out more is his “Apostle’s Warning” verse. Prodigy was just on another level with that one, and it went perfect with one of Havoc’s more darker, spookier sounding beats. I remember replaying that track over and over again after I heard it the first time. Just 100% pure dopeness. Salute to Eminem and Kendrick for helping carry on P’s legacy.
Prodigy is one of those rappers that’s gonna get more famous now that he’s dead and all the people he influenced are coming out of the woodwork. Thanks guys for never putting him on a track or hyping him when he was alive, by the way.
“I had the whole New York state.. Aiming at your face at the gate” P… drop a gem on em.
Hmm, so if two of the biggest names in hip-hop don’t show any sympathy for the passing of a legend, people would b!tch and call them disrespectful. When they do go on air or tweet to show sympathy and respect, they still get hated on cuz people think they’re doing it for money lmao. I think people in this generation are TRYING to find any reason to hate on both Eminem and/or Kendrick at this point.
They were saying Eminem & K Dot might be doing it for publicity. They didn’t say money, you did.
DOPE TRIBUTE, Rosenberg. I forgot about some of these. The “I Shot Ya” verse came in HARD!
Rest in Power, P.
Hey fools. Drake is the only one who’s shown any real homage to Prodigy when he was alive. He used the “Keep It Thoro” lyrics in “Tuscan Leather”. He even took pictures with Prodigy while he was alive. Check his Instagram. Eminem and Kenwack are only doing this for publicity. Drake is smart enough to borrow lyrics from old school hip hop songs and shout out veterans on his songs so when they do die, he won’t be looked at as a a bandwagoner who’s screaming for publicity and attention. Chess not checkers. Real ting, ya know? #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife
how does if fell to be the dumbest person on the internet?? hahahaha What a loser
Might wanna be sure you’re comment is grammatically correct before calling someone the dumbest person on the internet. Dumbass.. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife
On the other hand, you might wanna make sure you correctly use *your instead of you’re while responding to a dumbass comment about your dumbass comment.
I did it ironically, dumbass.. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife
Man shut your dumb ass up
I was expecting Em to rap the verse using that bullshit flow he’s been using lately lol
