Kanye West Says His Mother Spoke Through Him On Paul McCartney Feature “Only One”

At the dawn of the new year, Kanye West shared his collaboration with Paul McCartney, “Only One.”

Kanye sings — with a hint of autotune — on the heartfelt ballad, while McCartney laces the track with a comforting, piano-driven melody.

The song, which is dedicated to Kanye’s daughter, North, has a divine narrative behind it.

According to a press release obtained by Pitchfork, West and McCartney began working together in Los Angeles in early 2014. “Only One” spawned from the sessions they shared throughout the course of the year.

The Beatles’ lead singer improvised on the keyboards and Kanye sang what was on his mind at the time. After playing the track back for his family, Kanye didn’t recall singing “Hello, my only one…”

He believes that he channelled his late mother, Dr. Donda West, on the song and that she was speaking to North. He explained to his family that his name, Kanye, which had been chosen by his mother, means “only one.”

My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter,” he said, amazed by the moment.

“Only One” is slated to serve as the first single off Kanye’s forthcoming album. Listen below:

    1. If 50 Cent said his dead momma came to him and gave him the lyrics to sing in autotune everyone would laugh but because its Kanye West its a genius groundbreaking envelope pushing masterpiece.

    2. the fact that the chose to put out a press release saying his dead mother spoke to him makes this ultra cringe worthy to me

    3. stop deleting my comments, to be honest i don’t know what’s more disappointing wasting the 3 minutes listening to song or the song itself, by the way come and get Kim out of my bed and go and move to Paris with all Kardashians

    4. Kayne is desperate to appeal to oldies and gays. Who gives a shit about Paul anymore? It’s all about drake and Nicki.

      1. There’s no desperation here. Kanye isn’t trying to appeal to those people. Many people into the Beatles care about Paul. Fuck Drake and Nicki, whose recent alnum flopped.

    5. Can somebody give me credit for being honest in this website, even though i wrote 10 of the best albums of all times, and got your favorite rapper pregnant yes that’s me

      1. i been listening to all genres for years including THE BEATLES and this song sounds like complete doodoo to me.
