Kanye West Reportedly Splits With TIDAL

Kanye West has decided to end his contract with TIDAL over what is reportedly millions of dollars owed to him by JAY-Z’s streaming music service. While some have speculated the row is over Hov’s recent jabs at Yeezy on 4:44, the tension has apparently been brewing behind the scenes for some time.

According to TMZ, West’s attorney sent a letter to TIDAL stating there was a breach of contract and announced a termination of the deal. West is reportedly owed more than $3 million and the parties attempted to work out a favorable deal. After weeks of haggling, West’s attorney sent another letter finalizing their decision that the deal was over.

While the timing of this revelation is curious given JAY-Z’s bars on the 4:44 opening track “Kill Jay Z,” which finds the business mogul taking sharp aim at his Watch The Throne collaborator, the legal maneuvers took place well before the release of the track and West reportedly knew nothing of the song prior to last Friday (June 30). (That said, album producer No I.D. told the New York Times that the album was only finished the day before its release, so it’s possible the inclusion of Jay’s barbs were a game-time decision.)

West’s desire to split also stems from the fact the exclusive TIDAL release of The Life of Pablo hauled in 1.5 million new subscriptions, which was supposed to earn him a bonus. West also said the service has failed to pay him back for videos he produced, but TIDAL fired back by saying West didn’t deliver on his end.

It appears TIDAL is preparing to sue if West takes his new music to another streaming service, which will undoubtedly spark a long legal battle.

As of publishing, West’s music is still available on TIDAL.

    1. Looks like Kanye wisened up and realized he ain’t gonna cake up on Jay-Z’s wack streaming platform. Glad Nasty Nas stayed off that shit. #QueensGetTheMoney

      1. ‘” I would of took 100 mill and gave 20 to Hov , I heard that’s the way they did it when they only had a stove. ” The last song on TLOP where he also sampled Jays song. On Jay’s new ” I gave Ye 20 mill like it was nothing he gave me 20 mins on stage. ” He also went on to say ” if Jay a billionaire imma never go broke. ” It may be hard to realize but it’s not always about business it about helping someone from the bottom reach billionaire status. I highly doubt a as much as Kanye and his wife sold they souls they wont go broke, I’m sure he has cars worth more than he is ” owed ” from Tidal it’ prolly not as much about money as it’s about there personal relationship.

    2. The only reason people go on Tidal is cause of there exclusives. Which are only exclusive for about a week and lets be honest there not albums anyone is dying to hear anyway. All these albums you can dl 4 free online so you would have to be a moron to sign up for a streaming service to hear a new Jay-Z album which honestly isnt all that. I like Jay and Kanye but Kanye albums are way more dope then that over analyzed 4:44 bullshit. Tidal will be sold off soon and fade into obscurity

      1. WRONG! (charlie Murphy voice(R.I.P)) Kanye has two good albums and that’s the first two. Jay has way more. End of discussion. Sit down.

      2. Ever see the video of Kanye holding a plate in a car while this European millionaire eats off it? And his WIFE is sitting there laughing he has this really awkward smile.. Ever see that video? It’s kinda disturbing to get an in depth perspective on how much this guy sold out for acceptance with in the European culture. Jays albums are serious lessons. Kanye caters to suburb kids that copy what we do. No one but wealthy European kids and corporate slaves in training buy into his shit. They are who he caters too. He lost the trust in the culture bc of self hate. I loved his first two albums. But more than that I loved the Kanye that had integrity that Ye is dead along with his music and album potency he has to rely of the pop world moving forward.

    3. TIDAL pays us artists the most. I see why Jay entered that game. Literally pays 3 times as much as Spotify per play.

      1. Well Tidal/Live Nation/Sprint can afford to pay them 3X per song more than everyone else because that song only gets played a few times on Tidal versus the billions of plays on Apple, Spotify, Google Play etc. Fuck, Tidal artists probably have more play on your mom’s Zune than Tidal.

      2. Yea well if your only expectation as an “artist” are to be handed money hand over fist just with your music get the fuck over it you wanted to be an artist living well you get ENDORSEMENTS and SPONSORS who will pay you that money your seeking fuck just raping the fans who already struggles pockets you grubby fucks with your $20+ a month service which is retarded you do understand back in you know medevil times artists got paid with enough money to barely eat and that was it shouldnt be any different today you wanna eat AND have the fancy sports car and big house then BE SMART fucking lazy morons

    4. Who gives a flying mother fuckin fuck?!?! Take my money and let me cop off itunes or vinyl. Hip hop is dying, B.

    5. Why is it speculated that it might pertain to the jabs on 4:44? Wasn’t Kanye complaining about the politics between streaming services et al at his concert before his breakdown? His dissatisfaction due to apple and Tidal competitiveness and just wanting to give music to the people?

    6. Oh no! Kanye is going to miss all that money he wasn’t making off Tidal and their 100 paying subscribers.

    7. Kanye has seen that tidal doesn’t make sense. Like Cha Ching says why pay for exclusivity when you can chill a few minutes and download for free. Tidal is just like being in an expensive club nothing more

      1. Dumb comment being that he feels he owed 3 million from streams! I’ve never seen a streaming service get hated on until a black guy owned one

        1. Kinda like how Metallica lost their shit with Napster and Hip Hop threw a tantrum when iTunes became popular? Put your race card away.

    8. If it wasn’t for Jay, Kanye wouldn’t have shit. I’m not saying let anyone fuck over you, but you see your man’s trying to get new business off the ground. Have some loyalty and stand with him! He helped you eat. Stop being a fucking Diva for fucks sake!

      1. The song Holy Grail debuted at number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100, being at the time the second highest debut of the year 2013 on that chart. It peaked at number four and remained in the top 10 for 16 weeks. That was from his 2014 album “Magna Carter” which was released 4 years ago. You need to work on your maths.
