Kanye West, J. Cole & More Mourn XXXTENTACION’s Death

Hip Hop is reeling from another tragic death.

XXXTENTACION was killed in a shooting on Monday afternoon (June 18) in Broward County, Florida. He was found in his vehicle with no pulse following the shooting and rushed to a hospital. Soon after, the Broward Sheriff’s Office announced his death.

The controversial figure was beloved by some and despised by others, developing a devoted fanbase and scoring major commercial success despite his legal woes. He was one of the central figures in the emergent “SoundCloud Rap” scene and garnered praise from major figures, such as Kendrick Lamar.

But amid his rise to fame, he was heavily scrutinized due to an unresolved domestic abuse case in which he was accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend.

Reactions to X’s death have been pouring in since it was announced.

HipHopDX has collected some of the notable reactions from the Hip Hop community below.

      1. Because that’s ALL he contributed to the world. Apply objective, contextual analysis along with your feelings and you’ll realise being a butthurt wonder doesn’t help anyone.

        1. What else did he contributed to the WORLD? Mediocre talented artist with 2 Albums that combined sold 50k. Yeah he touched so many people. SMFH

          1. Damn fam, a man lost his life. Whether the music was trash or great, he was killed over another man’s greed. Have some respect for the dead, homie. R.I.P to the kid X. Crazy how we take life for granted and not knowing that death is closer to most people than you realize. Sad story for real.

            1. The “Man” you talkin about was a woman beater who r*ped his gf with kitchen utensil. Yeah, RIP. Hip Hop lost a great “Man”

            2. Nothing out of the ordinary in the world of S&M. There are brazzers episodes with nothing but sheer sexual brutality, but I’m sure you choose to ignore those whilst watching the others.

Don’t stroke with too broad a brush, if you’re going to make a damning assessment on something or someone, you should be prepared to evaluate as much as if not near to all of the output of the said subject in question.

          2. It’s true, I shouldn’t of called you a butthurt wonder, as that dilutes my point and you’re allowed to have your thought, so that’s fair.

So I’ll extend an olive branch, yes, at face value (lets assume that we’re both getting our media from the same place), yes he’s done some horrid things personally, things that I’d ask that most men be buried under the prison for. I’m not justifying any of those actions. He was 20 years old with a drive and to make music that garnered him a ton of success that I’m 90% sure that most kids of his age and background wouldn’t be able to manage without the right guidance.

So his music, you’re saying it’s a null contribution because it didn’t hit a big enough audience. I don’t know who you are, but I think it’s safe to say we’re not in the BB100 or have ever validation from 50k people. His Youtube views speak volumes higher, whether he helped or offended them all, he somehow made a connection.

I’m simply saying you’re being a tad naive and stroking with too broad a brush, – he shouldn’t be SOLELY judged on his past actions, we should live, to a relatively high degree in the present and look at the current state of his actions, he at least appeared to be wanting to better himself. Remember Justin Bieber in his teen “rage:” years? Considering the context of XXX’s albums, to assume he couldn’t or didn’t have the potential to grow into someone who could of been a contributor to our mental and social benefit.

    1. No matter how you feel about his music this is heartbreaking. He was just a kid around the same age as most of our kids. We have to figure out how to remove the violence out of Hip Hop.

        1. People make movies about violence all the time Quentin Terantino. Ever heard of him? Why should you be convinced to kill by rap music when you can’t be convinced with movies ? I hear that stupid opinion all the time about it promoting violence. What about movies?dont they convince people ? An idiot is an idiot. People violently way before rap music.

      1. Before we can remove violence out of hip hop. We have to remove violence out of the streets. Hip-hop is the music of the streets. In order to stop the violence in the streets, we would have to make societal changes.

    2. He isn’t dead. He is actually in abcomatoae but stable condition. Actually spoke to doctors and they told me the fake media blows it out of porportion.

      1. He isn’t even dead. Just a doctor made an incorrect observation not knowing a fucking difference between comatose and death.

          1. He isn’t dead. Just comatose. Dont realize the media can’t tell a difference between dead and comatose.

Xxztenacion is a legend. He will continue to rise.

        1. You would know about comatose huh? Your girl tells me thats how you make her feel when your inside her while im sliding in her makin her grab the sheets

      1. Rappers have always gotten killed over bullshit. From jam master jay, to 2 pac, to XXX. Shit is just sad

    3. While reading this I was thinking of that Nas and Kanye song “everything.” Just to some up this situation.

    4. Fuckin illuminati shit…. didnt agree with alot this young man did but he touched alotta people and nobody deserves to die over such pathetic shit nor does his family deserve to lose someone they love fucked up world we live in r.i.p

    5. Damn i didnt agree with alot this young man did but he reached alotta people nobody deserves to die the way he did or feel the pain his families feeling r.i.p

    6. this is what the BLM movement should be about. Young black men being killed by other young black men over some bullshit. For sure this was a dent or some gang shit. Had the cops pulled him over and he had resisted arrest, everyone would be up in arms. Such hypocrisy. We as Americans need to acknowledge that young black men are the leading cause of death to other healthy young black men period. All this bullshit gang glorification, stunting with cars and money, trap worship Ian filling the cemeteries and prisons with young men, and for what? Everyone justifies this crap with bigotry in the past, civil rights, Trump. These kids have no fathers. They turn around and aren’t fathers to their kids. Something must be done. How many young black Americans die a day that aren’t famous. Or just Americans? I’m sick of this shit! Fuck T.I. S racist ass BTW.

      1. White man telling black people how they’re supposed to act, what a surprise. Must be gang related huh? Dude never mentioned gang affiliation his entire career, never made that kind of music at all. Yet somehow you reach the conclusion that it was “gang shit”, from what evidence did you reach that conclusion? He was black and wore his pants too low for your liking? If you had even read the story you’d know it was a fucking robbery. Couple of stick-up men saw a rich musician and decided to take him for his gold. That’s what happened. Man fuck you and fuck those child killers you call ‘cops’. Calling other people racist lol.

        1. Right… the dudes who stuck him up for his jewels weren’t in a gang? Are you from FL? I am. I know the cats XXX ran with. All gang members. By the way. I’m a Latino. Not that that makes a difference. Any conscious black person would be saying the same thing. Fucktard.

        2. How many “children” have the cops killed in the last 10 years? I’ll wait. Google it. We can go under 25 and black. Now look up how many under 25 black “children” were killed by other blacks in Chicago alone in the last 5 years… I’ll wait. Now check the same demographics for whites, Latinos and Asians. Then add up whites Latinos and Asians. Still waiting. Idiot.

          1. Why don’t you look up the numbers and tell me you dumb piece of shit. It’s your argument. So killing children is okay because other people do it too? It’s okay for someone to come into your house and murder your children because some other kid got shot on some street corner somewhere? And quit up voting your own comments, it’s pathetic

            1. I already have explained my argument well enough for anyone beyond a double digit IQ to understand. You are an uneducated retard. You expressed your non GED having ass opinion on a comment that a grown ass man left. One with a college education. Dipshit. You are commenting on something you obviously know nothing about. I told you to look it up so you would stop acting like an idiot, too late. I know the numbers and statistics, I’ve studied them. Your working at Arby’s ass obviously didn’t get the point. Keep riding that ignorant wave and don’t look at what is actually happening. The statistics of “questionable” cops killing unarmed or innocent “children” (by definition, under 18), is far below the statistics of cops being killed by anyone, regardless of race. Black people kill more black People a year at a rate higher than cops shoot anyone in five (by percentage or overall). You are trying to say someone is wrong who has concrete facts to back up their argument, then you’re asking them to explain it to you? You sound like some hipster, coffee shop, whiteboy SJW. That gay pirate look sucks.

            2. Holy shit your entire post is one giant ad hom and you’re telling me I’m the one that needs to go to college. You are so fucking dumb I pray you never breed. I’m not going to respond to a post that’s one GIGANTIC logical fallacy. Why do white supremacists even listen to hip hop? I’ll say it again because you were too dumb to understand, fuck you and fuck those child killers you call cops. And btw jackass, those statistics don’t even exist. That was my point you inbred brother/sister love retard child. YOU’RE ENTIRE ARGUMENT IS BASED OFF STATISTICS THAT DON’T EVEN EXIST. College or not I’ll always be smarter than you jackass and these posts prove it to anyone who takes the time to read them.

            3. Yo you are definitely missing the point of “Go to a …” We can’t countinue looking at “police brutality” as the problem. It’s a product of a crooked system as well as our own inconsistency of accepting that we self harm and oppress our own communities by countinuing detrimental habits.

            4. Those “detrimental habits” are a by-product of the material conditions that have been forced upon us through the implementation of capitalism. Those problems aren’t going away until we overthrow the capitalist mode of production that causes them. Police brutality on the other hand can be dealt with immediately in the present

          2. Why don’t you look up the numbers and tell me you fucking retard? It’s your argument not mine. And it’s okay for police to murder children because other people do it too? Wow beautiful argument. And quit up voting your own comments, it’s pathetic.

      2. You must not have read the posts dumb ass. Slow people like you don’t seem to understand people have a problem with both.

    7. This dude was nuts. Preached all postitive stuff but beat, kidnapped etc his girlfriend. Talked shit to Rob Stone got knocked out….Actions have consequences……people shouldn’t be looking up to this shit bag…

      1. if you have nothing even empathetic or remorseful to say about the death of a young black man, then say nothing and stay in your room until the hate leaves you. FOH

        1. The death of a young man. If he was white it would be different? Fucking idiot. He is a person. All that “he’s black” shit doesn’t help him now. For sure another black man killed him. Dipshit.

          1. Well, we know your White now. Yeah it would be different if he were White, but you don’t understand and you’re ignorant.

    8. The fucked up thing about it is we’ll care about it for a week and then go right back to entertaining the same nonsense.

      1. His involvement was he is happy someone mentioned him in the comment section of HHdX. It’s about the only attention he has ever gotten.

      1. Drake couldn’t squash a grape with a sledgehammer. He is straight pussy. Your reaching for a Canadian dick that’s already all down your throat there buddy.

          1. Cancer to hip hop? That’s great…a great day in hip hop to y’all is a dead body? Y’all aint hip hop, ne one celebrating the death of a hip hop artist. Whether you like him or not, he was more than music, he was a real human being. Y’all act like getting shot to death is equivalent to the WWE. This is real life, this is a 20 year old kid slumped in a car, this is parents grieving their son. If wishing death on a hip hop artist cuz you didn’t like his music,or bad decisions he made, allows you to wish death on him that just makes you another desensitized drone that looks at these people as entertainment, instead of actual humans. You my friends, are cancer to hip hop, you’re completely missing the point of the culture. It’s an outlet for all, y’all sit n listen to 50 cent, game, etc talking bout shooting people while they possibly really have, listen to eminem who was a drug addict that talks about murdering his wife, listen to tupac who was accused of rape and imprisoned for it,same as mystikal…hip hop is a written story of life itself, regardless of who you are. I’m not a fan, kid kinda creeped me out, but X was talented and he was a person, not an album. You’re hypocrites who value human life based on your opinion of their music,as opposed to an actual person. I sit here with a Tupac t-shirt on, n no I don’t respect some of his decisions, but loved his art. You’re an idiot and heartless human being if your definition of life’s worth is your opinion of their music. So your jobs at home depot, or construction job, or w/e you do…if someone doesn’t like you, what value are you to life if they took it? Y’all must not think before you speak, n if you truly thought it out, then you’re plainly a twisted person n have no place in this culture. You just vulture off of your personal stanning, and speak from the tongue of a serpent. GTFOH, you obviously have zero understanding of what this culture truly is, and don’t belong. Sit outside the classroom, children.

            1. OMG PREACH IT you are completely right if only they had mind that was as mature as yours they could learn alot and 11 i am and still know that wow thats sad. now YOU my friend give me hope in this world yes positive minds like YOU!!!!

    9. Too bad it wasn’t Takeshi. Maybe next time. Hopefully sometime tomorrow, or in the next hour or so. No rush.

      1. 619 is actually decent person deep down just a bit confused, you seen his videos helping out the poor and giving money, gotta respect him for that. I don’t see many other rappers doing that.

    10. Poor kid. He didn’t even get a chance to “date” Amber Rose or empregante a Kardashian. So sad…

    11. It’s more disrespectful to clearly use someone elses flow, and claim you never heard of him. The kid did a lot of wrong, but now he doesn’t have the opportunity to fix those wrongs.

    12. Homie was a clown …………Gangstas get lit up ……..So Obvious……You’re just an old creepy white dude in your 40’s …..

      1. Lmao …….you’re a long way past 27 creepy old dude …..For the record your not fooling anyone with the tuff guy talk . Sitting there in your favorite comfy slippers acting like a gangster . Just sit there and relax creepy, at your age you’ll do yourself an injury Think about your blood pressure !!!

    13. ANYONE shocked at comments about how its “great” and ect.. Let’s be real, I have a hard enough time caring about mafuckers that I know personally let alone drug addicted pieces of shit like this kid.

No jokes: I was legit kinda glad this shit happened. fuck the internet rappers like this gotta go.

      1. Why do I get the feeling you wasn’t very popular when you was growing up ? If your gay/homosexual you don’t need to hide it anymore . I’ve been where you are .

      2. Drug addicted pieces of shit, huh?
You didn’t even bother to educate yourself before posting.
I’m left wondering what could have possible offended you about a young talent passing.
All blessings though. Hope things in your life get better.

    14. This kid definitely had his problems, definitely made some real bad decisions but he seemed to be trying to get away from that life. Not only that, he was only 20 years old. Whether it’s known or done behind closed doors, we all got our demons. But this kid is DEAD…DEAD…like lifeless, honestly the lack of empathy and the desensitization of what it means to be dead, regardless of your opinions, sickens me. No one’s perfect, fact is, we dont know the truth of that girl’s words, and even if completely true, she’s alive and even grieving his death, so who are y’all to judge a young kid with the possibility of turning all of his negatives into a positive way of teaching others not to repeat the same mistakes. You grow and you learn, you grow up in trauma you make traumatic decisions to learn from…y’all’s lack of empathy is as sick as the people that left his body slumped n another mother n father mourning their child. It’s a disgusting cold world we live in.

    15. THIS IS FOR EVERY NEGATIVE COMMENT ON HERE: please stop say mean things about him he had feelings to he wanted to commite suicide i had depression before he died and i was afraid to tell my parents im 11 and im a musilm and an emo he started to help me overcome my depression without my parents or sibilings knowing with his words, his music, his kindness, and his heart, and i would just cry when my mother would say horribile things about him now my depression has grown worse i had none of my brothers in my life either one died when he was 4 and my other brothers are in the army and i feel like no one loves me so by these mean comments your saying your hurting me cause he was a person and although i never met him it felt like i did xxx is like a brother to me but i still have a crush on him and im still 11 …………..RIP MY BROTHER YOU ARE MY HERO AND YOU MADE ME FEEL LOVED???
