Ahead of the release of his newest project, Joey Bada$$ has a hint of what to expect. On Thursday (July 16), the Brooklyn rhymer took to Twitter to announce his forthcoming three-song bundle The Light Pack will put an end to the mumble rap era.
“This is mumble rap extermination,” he wrote. “This is godly interpolation.”
The Light Pack is set to be released Friday (July 17), and Joey wants to make it clear the short project is not an EP.
âDonât call it an EP, I hate that,â he wrote on Twitter earlier this month. âItâs 3 songs, bundled together. #TheLightPack.â
In his announcement, he promised The Light Pack will serve the “Mind, Body & Soul” of his listeners and added he chose three songs to signify the three years it’s been since his last effort, 2017’s All-Amerikkkan Bada$$. Featuring J. Cole, ScHoolboy Q, Styles P, reggae artist Chronixx, Flatbush Zombies’ Meechy Darko and his Pro Era artists Kirk Knight and Nyck Caution, the album debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with 51,000 album-equivalent units.
Fans may not get an album like All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ again, however, as he previously denounced projects with more than 14 songs.
âThe thing with this project is everyoneâs going to be satisfied, and not in a way where itâs too many things on the menu,â he said in an interview on May 5. âIâm definitely not that type. You come to my restaurant, motherfucker, itâs like 10 options. I hate when motherfuckers put out an album longer than 14 songs. Nobody wants to fucking listen to that.â

I wish him the very best with mission. Mumble has very deep roots in today’s hip hop game thanks to the state of the industry over the last 10 years.
My nigga, 1st New lupe now Joey next up big krit
Oh great, another âIâm AbOuT tO eNd MuMbLe RaPâ project. People kept dissing it or trying to end it for the past five years but hasnât gone away yet. Eminem tried it, still here. Logic tried it, still here. There was a corny rap song called âDeath to Mumble Rapâ that dropped last year, and that one for sure didnât end shit. What makes Joey think he can end it? Itâs only something to give all the âreal hip hopâ heads an erection and tell everyone that doesnât like it to âgo listen to Lil Pump or Lil Uzi since you donât understand lyricsâ. While they only listen to two or three lyrical miracle rappers and think theyâre hip hop experts. And if you actually listened to some of these so called âmumble rappersâ you would know that they arenât actually mumbling but rather sing-rapping in Autotune and you can understand them clearly. So long story short, leave them alone, itâs clearly not gonna end anytime soon. You may proceed and type your typical cliche replies below now.
Iâm not sure you know what âlong story shortâ means bro
Oh Iâm sorry. âLong comment shortâ, that better for you? You understood the rest of my comment though, right?
Woah there captain mumble rap, take a Xanax and chill out.
I like What joey is aiming for, he has A Nice flow and these are quality beats BUT.. is it just me or does joey sound kind of simple? The lyrics are Kind of dumb and thats fine but joey tries to come across as A intelligent and deep Dude. Still he never says anything new or eye opening.
From the PRO era crew it was always capital steez that had the real bars
Death to mumble rap, while you piles of money writing songs for that culture vulture Post Malone…
Came here to say this. Biting the hand…..
MISSION FAILED!!!
You cant kill it when the people who listen to it dont give a f$cx about your music. They will never give a f$cx, and their music will continue to exist. “I like motorcycles, no one should drive cars! Death to cars! F$cxing cancel cars Im tired of seeing them!!”
Let these trap homies do their thing. There’s more to life than mid 90s east coast rap.
The light and the track with pusha were both fiya
