JAY-Z Reveals Reason Behind Rift With Kanye West

JAY-Z was a recent guest on the Rap Radar Podcast, where hosts Brian “B.Dot” Miller and Elliott Wilson asked the Hip Hop titan about his relationship with Kayne West.

The world was privy to some intimate details about Hov’s feelings towards his former Watch The Throne collaborator thanks to a handful of subtle disses on 4:44, but it wasn’t exactly clear why things went sour for the friends-turned-adversaries —until now.

During Part 1 of the hour-long interview, Jay admitted they used to routinely argue, but always respected each other. He said when Kanye mentioned wife Beyoncé and 5-year-old daughter Blue Ivy during his infamous 2016 rant, he “crossed the line.”

“Think about how I got to that point,” Hov explained. “It’s not even about Kanye. It really isn’t. His name is there, but it’s just the truth of what happened, but I’m sayin’ the whole point is you got hurt because this guy was talking about you on a stage, but what really hurt me is you can’t bring my kids and my wife into it.

“Kanye’s my little brother,” he continued. “He’s talked about me a hundred times. He made a song called ‘Big Brother.’ We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it. Now that’s a problem with me. That’s a real, real problem. He know it’s a problem ’cause me and him would have been talked about it. We would have been resolved our issues, but he know he crossed the line. I know him. he knows. He knows … I know he knows because we’ve never let this much space go between one of our disagreements and we’ve had many. That’s part of who we are. That’s what I liked about him. He’s an honest person. He’s open and he’ll just say things, and he’s wrong a lot of times, but we’ll confront it.”

Kanye and Jay’s rocky relationship was the subject of a recent British documentary, Public Enemies.

Ye is reportedly armed with a response to Jay’s barbs on 4:44, but so far, nothing has materialized.

        1. It was a good listen, but nothing in heavy rotation. It’s an album that’ll be on my playlist when I’m feeling a certain way, but that’s it.

        2. What album was that? Not that bullshit 4:44 album, that shit puts people to sleep. If your going to say stuff in that other rappers have done at least do it in an interesting way.

          1. Yea that bullshit album is critically acclaimed and was number one and platinum. A lot of people put it up there as album of the year. And jay ain’t just some ”other rapper”, a broke rapper talking about black empowerment don’t hold weight. A rapper who actually owns something can talk that talk Nas and others can’t talk about ownership if they got money problems themselves. I bet if jay talked about flossing then you would be the first one crying.

            1. You mean the album that only went platinum and number one because Sprint bought a million units? Hip Hop album reviews haven’t been legit since the mid 90s, to much payola floating around to take anything serious. Not sure why you angry about broke rappers doing black empowerment songs, are you being serious on that point? Just because your broke doesn’t mean you can’t have interesting and legit ideas and just because your rich doesn’t mean what you say is legit or relevant. Anyways, 4:44 is lame.

            2. You say its lame but you are out voted. Real mc’s love the album as well. I would listen to other rappers opinion before I listen to somebody who don’t know what there talking about. So if album reviews don’t mean anything then I guess the albums you like that got good reviews really is lame.

            3. “before I listen to somebody who don’t know what there talking about” That’s sounds about right you probably doubt every thought in your head. Here is another L. Now you got triple L’s. Please, go back to listening to listening to the most acclaimed musical artist of our time, Taylor Swift.

            4. Im with you until the Nas slander. He isn’t in financial trouble and hasnt been, he has his own label his own clothing etc. Respect the god

            5. Way to lose the argument there buddy. Taylor Swift pushes more units and has more critically acclaimed albums/reviews than Jay Z but wtf does that mean? Nothing. It just means she is popular and has a lot of money behind her, it doesn’t mean her albums, lyrics or message is any good.

            6. Dude you sound stupid If he got great reviews because he popular then why didn’t they do it for MCHG or kingdom come or even BP3 ? you the one losing. You people kill me, ya’ll hate that man success so much you got an excuse for win. Like I said earlier, legendary real mc got him as one of the greatest to who ever did it. I would lean toward there opinion than haters on a hiphop websites looking for jay z stories to bad mouth him.

            7. Haha… thanks for the laff there budd. “Legendary MC’s” that are still recording, putting out new stuff and want to go to the latest Beyonce party suck Jay Z’s dick, just like the rest of the people in the industry and you do to apparently. He’s another L now you got double L’s.

            8. dude you just another hater mad about your situation. its funny that its only d riding when its the people you hate. You probably d ride your favorite rapper hard.

        3. 4:44 was alright, if you thought it was fire you need to reevaluate your life and listen to more Hip Hip than just Jay Z.

    1. Kanye has fallen off bad. His music lacks soul nowadays. His last few albums have been wack! Kardashian was the last nail in the coffin.

      1. He has to break free – Kim and her team of lawyers probably have a stronghold on whatever money he has left though

    2. Who gives a shit anyway? Jay Z likes to manufacture controversies to promote his album. The whole cheating on Beyonce thing seemed like Kardashian style made up bullshit to me.

    3. He’s upstet that Ye said their kids don’t play together and their wives don’t chilll? That’s what passes for the line that you don’t cross? Marcy Hov is dead lmfao

      1. Haha! I also thought that was the only thing said at the time.?unless we missed something else. Beyoncé done tamed Hov lol

    4. pussy boy jay-z mad at the world while being hella rich… give me a break, album was overrated as fk, looking forward to more Kanye albums that is sad when life of Pablo way better than 4:44

    5. maybe and just maybe kanye started to dislike the whole satanic bullshit, cause he started to talk like a conspiracy theorist on that rant

    6. To me jay-z is so overrated ! Everytime he drops an album there are only a very few songs I can listen to. For instance in 4:44 I merely like two songs: The Story of OJ and Legacy. The rest sounds average to me. I believe the only reason he got where he is now is because of the void left by some of the greatests who are either retired or dead. And I won’t even go on about people callin him the greatest cause they would rather follow the masses and repeat foolishly what the medias harp on about jay’s status than think for themselves. Don’t get me wrong. Jay-Z is a good lyricist and he got hits under his belt. I can’t deny that. But his music never had that much effect on me like Scarface, Pharoah Monch, Ice Cube and the Wu-Tang have.

      1. I think so too. I have been thoroughly analizing biggie, pac, nas and jay throughout this year and I have come to the conclusion that he is the best. That is just my opinion, I respect anyone else’s, but what I don’t respect is people hating on Jay for being successful, I don’t get that.

        1. being successful and the level of artistic level is not the same. To this day Jay-z cannot make a song like Dear Mama or Keep Ya Head Up, or Changez. Songs that change the World. Nobody cares or hates Jay-z success, people hate the fact that they over praise him even though he writes ordinary Pop-Rap songs that chart very high. He has business skills, his rapping skills are Top Notch but nowhere near Legendary status. As a business man he’s on legendary status. Dont get them confused. KRS-One will literally run circles around Jay-z in a freestyle battle.

          1. I agree with STILLOU314, JAY Z is the best rapper ever. Culture, lyrics, and credibility is what makes him on the highest level. Yep, if you think Dear Mama, Keep Ya Head Up, and Changez are the benchmark. I will politely mention he has plenty of great songs but even better albums with just Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album, and 4:44 to name a few. Name 10 hiphop artist you respect and love and I bet almost all or at least half were inspired or influenced by Jay.

            1. Better Albums? Only 1 of them albums is seen as a verified classic. The other two are classics in only the most hardcore Jay Z stan’s eyes. It’s actually really easy to name 10 hip hop artists I respect and love that were not inspired or influenced by Jay Z.

    7. jay z is like those movies that get an oscar but is boring as fuck and nobody watches that shit

    8. Kanye smash this old fuck already! He making you look pussy. You’re such a push over Kanye…..

    9. smh…. no Jay-Z is overrated?? GTFOH, bottom line, Kanye crossed the line and he knows that, if he doesnt than he is a stupid mofo. smh, he just mad Jay barked back. Ye, dont take the bait, just admit ur fault and reconcile, Jay seems open to possibility.

    10. If Kanye had any sense he wouldn’t go back at Jay, just talk it out like men and get back into the studio together. Watch the Throne needs a sequel.

    11. Yeah I guess when your used to getting fucked over by your other so called brothers the one nigga that’s loyal to you you treat like he’s disposable
