JAY-Z On NFL Owner’s “Inmates” Comment: “That’s What They Think About You”

JAY-Z made sure to address one of the biggest stories of the week during his Friday (October 27) concert in Anaheim.

The NFL has been dealing with another controversy due to Houston Texans owner Bob McNair. An ESPN report revealed that McNair said, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison” in reference to the players at an owners’ meeting about the ongoing National Anthem protests. The comments, which mistakenly (or purposefully) misused the “inmates running the asylum” idiom, understandably led to plenty of criticism and unrest in the Texans’ locker room.

Hov decided to speak out about McNair’s words on the 4:44 Tour, condemning the sentiment while still providing a message of hope. JAY tied the whole thing into his performance of “The Story Of O.J.”

“They’re injuring themselves on the field, giving it all they got,” he told fans in attendance. “That’s how they look at you. That’s what they think about you. We got so much further to go. The truth is we all believe in whatever you believe in — God, Allah. Whatever you believe in, we come from one source which means we are all brothers and sisters at the end of the day.”

McNair has apologized in a public statement issued by the Texas, but the damage has clearly been done.

Check out Hov’s address above and read McNair’s statement below.

      1. He said “read the book…” hahahahaha. Have you seen the spelling and punctuation in this section? Hahahaha. You are a funny man.

    1. Is this guy seriously trying to get me to feel sympathy for people who make more in ONE game than most americans make in a year not even counting endorsements….its an old saying too dont try turning it into some racist bantor god damn these hollywood types are getting RETARDED people need to start boycotting shit and hit them in the pocket books and make them think a little bit…

        1. Talentless fool? Thats why im self employed and earn $200K-$325K a year im soooo talentless lmao talentless possibly but skilled? Something i got in spades…

      1. So because they make more in one game than the yearly salary of average Americans then they are not human and are supposed to accept any and everything then do you realize how ignorant that is.

        1. No their human but they should create their own platform then to stand up for what they believe the NFL stands for FOOTBALL keep playing and shut the fuck up you wanna join the U.N or congress by all means if you just wanna sit around and bitch but if you wanna be in the NFL ENTERTAIN PEOPLE dont be a selfish dipshit creating a cause around 13% of the population that just makes every NFL player look ignorant neglecting the other 87% of demographics who are into football its STUPID kinda like you and the rotten puss you crawled outa

    2. Wow. How PC and dindu can our country get. That is a saying that isn’t new at all. These guys get paid millions of dollars to do what they live and bitch and moan. I am glad Kaepatrucks dumb ass got fired. He’s getting descriminares against driving around in his Lamborghini on his way to his Bel-Air mansion. GTFoH. All this BLM shit is proven to be statistically wrong. It was and is a wonderful tool to alienate black amaericans from the rest of society. I don’t see anyone ever complaining about Latinos being mistreated. There are mora latinos in the US than there are African Americans now, yet there are a WHOLE LOT LESS OF THEM crowding out prisons. Oh yeah, Jay-Z, don’t you talk about moving metric tons of coke and killing people? GtFOH. Sing the national anthem and play the game. Instead of taking a knee, retire, refuse to play and get fired. That I would LOVE to see. Liberia still accepts defende a of US slaves. They will give you citizenship. Why don’t you head out there? That’s a country set up by freed American slaves, the national language is Engkish. They are doing wonderfully without the white man around (sarcasm)

    3. Coming from the black man who helped destroy black communities by selling drugs. The black man who still calls black people n i g g a. The black man who shot another black man. The black man who stabbed another black man.. Yea, whatever you say Shawn..

      1. The white man is killing each other off, and crowding the prison system. Wait… is that the white man? Maybe I’m confusing my races.

    4. ¨The truth is we all believe in whatever you believe in — God, Allah. Whatever you believe in¨ ……..what about lucifer? you fucking satanist!

    5. It is a commonly used phrase. People need to lighten up. I feel so bad for millionaires playing a game then hoping in their $80k car to drive to their huge house

        1. Full of white guys? No whites make up a small percentage of the league. McNair was directing his senseless figure of speech towards the black players that he doesn’t want to kneel. Can’t be this hard.

      1. “og” I’m hoping that you learn that it’s hopping.

Only white people are insensitive to the fact of the matter. He meant slaves running the slave ship. He thought he was being nice. Since you love hip hop so much and visit this site. get your head out the sand. And Ole buddy decapitated… yeah and those white players ain’t living under the same circumstances of being judged by the color of their skin thus they are as insensitive as you are and don’t kneel with their brothers…. you are like them only want to be down when it’s convenient. Oh yeah, we know and we carry that burden too.

        God Speed.

        1. Hahahahaha. Hilarious. No one said anything about slaves and slaveships, you delusional fucktard. Where did that come from? Hahaha. How are black football players being judged by the color of their skin, you race baiting piece of shit? So your saying people who like football are racist if they don’t agree with your bullshit PC agenda? How is someone a racist because they don’t fall in line with your version of respect. Very funny. Here is another Dindu. Straight up. I served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I find it disrespectful that people don’t stand for the National anthem. Period. What do you have to say to that, fucknuts?

          1. Nothing about what we’re talking about is funny. What you said makes no sense. Are you saying people aren’t judged by the color of their skin? If so you’re dilusional and just want to be ignorant. And no I’m not saying that people who like football but don’t support players demonstrating against inequality that exists in the world are racists, I’m saying if they don’t believe it’s a fact they should be quiet just like I think your snowfuck ass should. I find it disrespectful that you think that because you went off to fight in a war that you have no idea what you were fighting for gives you the notion that you have the authority to deem not standing for the national anthem. So sit quiet until you can tell me you went to Iraq for a bigger purpose than a paycheck. Im sure you’re a fine cook.

    6. Here are the FACTS. NUMBERS DONT LIE. 65% of our prison systems consist of African Americans. African Americans are 15% of the population of the US. More Blacksburg are killed by other blacks in Chicago alone, in a month, than are shot by the police all year. More blacks die in prison in a month, than killed by cops in a year. 90% of those people in prison are there for drug charges i.e. enough weight to get locked up as a dealer. The reason they deal drugs is to have a ridiculous watch, a cool car and crazy expensive clothing just like the NFL players have and rappers like this idiot Jay-Z have. BTW, Jay-Z speaks about dealing drugs in every hit song of his since hard knock life. Rides around in Rolls Royce’s etc. young America (all races and religions) look up to this idiot. Say whatever kind of PC bullshit you want, this is some hypocritical bullshit. We have morons like “Killer Mike” saying not to vote for Hillary and he won’t because Neenie got pushed out, then hating on Trump. We also have T.I. talking that BLM bullshit when he was arrested as a convicted felon with priors for possession of ILLEGAL MACHINEGUNS AND SILENCERS. LOL. What were those going to be used on, the cops? Or other black people you are afraid are going to jack you or kick your ass. Quest Love publishing the names of all the politicians that donated to the NRA after the Vegas shooting, when Black Thought was arrested for carrying an illegal unregistered firearm in to one of the Roots own venues. LOL. Was the KKK coming to your show to kill you, or where you worried that some Dindu was going to try to run you for your chain? Please. Accept responsibility for your “culture” and actions. Idiots.

        1. Is what you said to the police right before they shot you, right in front of your 15 welfare children from 6 different baby mommas.

    7. This is a fake controversy. Not a fan of the NFL in general, but this particular owner was clearly using the common idiom “inmates running the asylum” (though misstated).

The NFL and it’s owners, whatever else one wants to say about them, have made a large number of African Americans into millionaires so they’ve done a lot more than most people to improve the condition of black people in the United States.

The entire issue over the protests is one of property rights. The owners have the right to require whatever behavior they want from their players as a condition of their contract. If they want the players to stand for the anthem, then the players have to stand or risking losing their employment.

The NFL is losing a lot of revenue and viewership over this issue so, regardless of ideology, the owners have a desire to be profitable.

I’m opposed to the NFL playing the National Anthem before games, period. I’m against the obscene military worship and Defense Department money they receive to propagandize the American people. I have no love for the owners and I think I’d agree more with the protesters than the owners on the issues.

Yet I recognize that this method of political protest is counterproductive at this point. Nobody has the right to protest on private property. You can protest on private property if the owner permits it. If I invite you into my house and you say something I don’t like, I can make you leave. You don’t have unlimited free speech rights in my living room.

    8. So we are supposed to take this violent, racist, misogynist criminal seriously? Raps about dealing drugs, calling women bitches, anti-semitic rehetoric, and the violent stabbing of a record exec in 1999. No thanks Jay-Z, we already have rich, racist, misogynist, violent criminals such as T.I. and Eminem virtue signaling and telling us how to support our country and live our lives.

    9. “We have so far to come”…. talking about millionaires, who have bosses, that say the bosses run shit, not the workers… that’s so racist right? Shit, if you don’t want to be controlled by a boss, then be self employed. Jayz spent much of his rap career glorifying the very crimes that plaque the black community. I won’t call it the African American community because most black people didint come from Africa in their own lives, just like nobody calls me an Italian American,

      1. Jay Z has never glorified what he did in the streets prior to becoming a successful businessman. He rapped about it quite a bit but he didn’t glorify it. Do your homework

        1. As someone who has listened to old jay-z this is probably the stupidest thing i have heard. Big Pimpin’, Money Cash Hoes? Money Ain’t A Thing, There’s Been A Murder, Ride Or Die, Reservoir Dogs, Can I Get A …? The Story of OJ…the list of songs goes on and on… the misogynistic objectification of women, the glamorous life of drug dealing and pimping women, the glorification of robbery and kidnapping, extortion, drive-by shooting, carjackings…. In the minds of impressionable youth this has added up to the glamorous mult-millionaire (almost billionaire) life that Jay-Z leads… Sad… And this was someone a presidential nominee used to curry favor among black voters and even had him perform at a rally. This is a sad example of a role model for blacks or anyone, yet he will point his finger with righteous indignation at an industry that has made so many blacks wealthy… We are lucky these athletes did not take the criminal drugs, guns, and ho’s route that Jay-Z did to attain his wealth, but they should not disrespect the nation that has made enormous strides for racial equality even at the expense of other races (affirmative action).

      1. So is go screw yourself, but does’nt really belong in civilized conversation. Justification and denial, white man’s folly. I wouldn’t take a blanket from you. It’s not my fault that your ancestors were too lazy to work for what they got, raise their children and (sleep) with their own wives.

    10. YOU LOST ME WITH THE BLACK PEOPLE MAKE UP 15% OF THIS COUNTRY . WHITE SUPREMACISTS @ITS FINEST MIXED WITH TRICKERY . REV WAR AND CIVIL WAR DECLINED THE WHITE POPULATION BIG TIME ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTH . SOCIAL MANIPULATION IS DYING FASTER THAN EVER

      1. Rome used the same tactics against the Helots they were outnumbered but always told the helots they were the majority . Ancient white trickery

      2. Not surprised we lost you early. Actually, the percentage is lower than 15% (more like 13.1%). Charles Stuart lives.

    11. NOTE TO READERS: the misinformation and ignorant are running loose in THE COMMENT SECTION. Don’t get bamboozled into a bigots regurgitated nuance as a fact of the matter. People who speak in numbers or slanted news, while attempting to use such anecdotal evidence as a means to explain a current ethnic or cultural custom, ills or otherwise….are fucking Worms or the worst kind. Parasitic of the ignorant . Don’t let them drain you with the nonsense ….these the saltine dindus who know everything about space cause they read it in a book from Amazon. The type to think that since he has a associates From a degree factory in basket weaving that he’s smart yet he still uses wikipedia as a credible source. DON’T FEED THE TROLLS. We all seen what happened in gremlins

      1. Hiphopdx should not initiate the joke-driven comments by trolls by having such stupid race baiting reaction articles.

        1. I’m not in agreement, I believe in holding the readership accountable to digest complex subjects through their own due diligence if we’re talking in hypothetical’s. But I digress, NY times are written at a 12th grade level and the NY post is written at an 8th grade level ….. what do you think this blog is wrote at? Maybe you got a point but do you believe most readers NOt commentators feel like the fools that take up most space in these comment sections?

          1. Yet the NY Times are have been caught lying and producing fake news… You might have graduated high school but the education system has failed you as you are clearly a mainstream media slave. If all you read is the NY Times and NY Post, i feel sorry for you. What has the establishment done for you aside from encouraging to become a lazy piece of shit on government support?

            1. You might not have a college education as I do since you clearly missed the phrase “due diligence ” that’s is all. You warrant no further attention .

    12. Hmmm… I wonder if this comment will backfire against Roc Management. Jay Z was pretty chummy with a lot of NFL owners and I even remember Jerry Jones going out of his way to thank Jay Z for Dez Bryant last contract.
