JAY-Z Gets A Black Twitter Beating After Lyrically Checking Fans’ Pockets

Not even the greatest rappers are above criticism, and JAY-Z is no different as opinions pour in over his latest musical offering.

On Thursday (August 20), a preview of Hov’s new Neptunes-produced track “Entrepreneur” with Pharrell Williams was made available ahead of its debut with Skateboard P’s new TIME cover package, “The New American Revolution.” On the song, Jay calls out Black Twitter directly.

“Black Twitter, what’s that?” he raps. “When Jack [Dorsey, Twitter CEO] gets paid, do you? For every one Gucci, support two FUBUs.”

Journalist Gerrick Kennedy pointed out the fact many networking opportunities have happened through Black Twitter and felt it completely missed the mark.

How Nas & JAY-Z's Longstanding Beef Was Permanently Squashed At A Private Def Jam Retreat

“So Jay really has no idea how many of us have discovered Black businesses from Black Twitter?” he wrote. “Or how many of us have gotten opps, or built businesses for ourselves from Black Twitter? Man, he really washed for that wack ass line.”

    Multiple responses echoed similar sentiments.

“They are both so out of touch it’s actually insane and a joke,” one response read. “Expecting fans to just take the finger wagging.”

Another read, “Totally hear you on that. I wish he celebrated the fact that black business found a lane on Twitter to market their businesses.”

However, some challenged Kennedy to wait to hear the whole song before formulating such an opinion.

Check out more responses to the line below.

    1. Jay-Z will be soon dancing for Joe “you ain’t black” and “1994 crime bill” Biden in 2020 just like Jay-Z and Beyonce sucked up to and cheerleaded for Hillary “super-predator” Clinton in 2016.

        1. Thats ur opinion pal. Unfortunately for u anybody with a brain disagrees with you. You followin sumbitch.

          1. I’ll settle this.. you are all gay. I bet you queers can’t go a day without screaming about politics online. What a lame fuck lmfaoooooooo

    2. All these twitter nerds getting offended. Go outside. Stop staring at your stupid phone all day and get a life.

    3. The ones getting mad at jay z are nas stans who are probably virgins and never got laid. What does it take for you to see that nas’s music is wack?

    4. “The culture” “black twitter” keep you simps in a box and many would like to keep it that way. The “culture” is too closed minded and weak. Won’t change either. Look at these fools statements on Twitter haha what a joke.

    5. People need to avoid streaming “Entreprenuer” across all platforms out of principle. Jay’s head growing too big for his shoulders.

    6. Was his point that it’s owned by Jack who isn’t black. So no matter what you call it,(black Twitter) its still a white guy making money off of black people or…Black twitter?

      1. Comprehension is at an all time low, people use Twitter so much they think there’s a “black” Twitter.

      1. And how much money do YOU put in white people’s pockets daily? You wear Nikes, you play Madden, 2k…you have an iPhone?…You put your money in white people pockets everyday but you want to criticize someone else.

    7. business DNA Vist this site….GoCash9<< please add a {".com"] and open a web page

    8. My question is, who is Gerrick Kennedy? Im rolling with Jay on this one. WTF is black twitter if its owned by a white man?

      1. Anytime I hear of black twitter it’s being used as a way to ridicule or disrespect someone who said something that the masses don’t agree with….kinda like now

    9. I’m still trying to get Jay Z, when we buy your shit don’t YOU get paid? We don’t get paid from you so? And that’s that, business is business no matter the COLOR!

    10. Anyone notice the photos of jay and dorsey walking w 3 or 4 other guys lookin like regular civilians? Right in front of yalls face. Argue it out twitter they were prolly headed to the bank. You mad well go beat em.

    11. Nas wishes he could disrespect black twitter as good as HOVA. No one upsets twitter like Jay.. and no one gets me rock hard like the king does. ROC NATION

    12. LMAO…That’s what ya get cha bitch…this nigga always wanna drop when Nas drop except this time it backfired HA…King’s Disease 2020

    13. Y’all missed the point! He simply saying don’t make someone else rich before you make your own people. Let’s support one another first. How about we start our own social media platform for us by us??The fact that this went over so many heads and turn into a bashing session is sad and scary. We need to do better.

      1. I believe ‘we got ups’ is a black owned social networking platform. I didnt look at it yet but heard somebody say something about it. #cbf4life

    14. Jay is pointing out that all ppl do (most, not every one) is talk and troll online but they dont actually follow through. Buddy who said he is washed for that line thinks that everyone is using black twitter for good. He’s telling people to go out and support black businesses instead of talking about it on your phones. But we live in a hypersensitive society who cant look in the mirror and accept fault. Buncha clowns

    15. Jesus christ listening to these people who think they are intellectuals whine and complain like little cry babies about everything is nauseating. I know i know black twitter, santa clause was really black its tha white devil tryna distort the history books yo. You gotta do the knowledge, we some smart kangz and queenz.

    16. The only thing Black Twitter beats are their own beans while trying to feel special and self important. I mean one of those comments actually called Jay “priveleged” and “out of touch”. The man went from gutter to billionaire and worked for it, it wasn’t handed to him. These social justice idiots make me laugh, they really do hate anyone with some money in their pockets even if they earned it. Nevermind the fact that they were too busy having a knee jerk to even get the message (ie. talk with your wallets, not your phones). But it’s Twitter… Why think with your brains when you can just mindlessly bang elbows on keyboards?

    17. Garbage, anti-authority, anti-education culture. Disproportionate rates of violence. Zero accountability. Learned helplessness. Crabs in a barrel. But let’s blame everyone else!

        1. Good one. A cornerstone of intelligence is pattern recognition. In truth, vast majority of black people are good, hardworking, law-abiding citizens. But of the entire pool of criminals in the US, a disproportionate amount of them are blacks that are entirely represented by the descriptors above.

    18. Hes literally saying that to be successful you need to move off of social media and do something irl… as in make your own platform so you can really make an impact. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that offends people nowadays

    19. Jay doesn’t even use social networks… And continues to build his empire. That dude sounds like a drug attack dependent on his drug. So you can’t be successful without twitter? Jay is basically saying, build a black twitter instead praising a platform that put’s money in the pocket of somebody who doesn’t give a f*ck about the plight of black and brown people. Looks like Jay is going to have to write a note to goofballs after every line like that though…. smh! LoL

    20. Oh Yeah, Jay-Z supporters are neoliberal like Jay-Z huh. Guys, not everything has to be a capitalistic extravaganza. Some folk just want to send a tweet sometimes. And congrats to Jay-Z, Kobe, Jordan, Oprah…for being incredibly talented and working hard. Some of you also need to recognize that not all of us can do some of the things you all did ethics wise in order to make the money that you did. So don’t try to look down on us from the same ground that we walk on. That doesn’t work. I also recognize that you may be trying to inspire folk. I get that. What we also need help with though is the fight for Reparations and systemic changes. Blacks already behave normally.
