J. Cole Shows He’s Riding With Colin Kaepernick Over Anthem Protest

Over the weekend, more members of the Hip Hop community showed support for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, with J. Cole and Trey Songz both wearing his #7 jersey in recent performances.

The football player’s decision to not participate in the American National Anthem during multiple pre-season games was a symbol of protest against injustice and the killings of African Americans by police. The act opened up a passionate national debate about patriotism and the right to free speech.

The North Carolina rapper donned the jersey at a performance on Saturday.

Trey Songz also wore the jersey while performing at Drai’s in Las Vegas.

Kaepernick’s protest has become such a big issue that President Obama addressed it at a news conference in China on Monday, saying that the player is “exercising his constitutional right.”

“I don’t doubt his sincerity,” Obama said of the San Francisco 49er quarterback. “I think he cares about some real, legitimate issues that have to be talked about. If nothing else, he’s generated more conversation about issues that have to be talked about.”

As of publishing, Kaepernick’s jersey is currently the #5 most popular online in the NFLStore and makes up three of the top five most popular on Shop49ers.com.

    1. Yeah? Colin cares sooo much about these issues that he’s willing to sit down, and not spend any of his millions and millions of dollars to ACTUALLY make a difference. What he’s doing is not helpin ANYBODY!

      1. What’re you doing for the cause, what contribution have you made cause obviously you have the time and resources to do something rather than be biased about some other person’s contribution.

        1. I’m not making contributions cause I know that the black community isn’t being specifically opressed. It’s thd poor community in general. OJ Simpson was sooo unfair when he got away win murder. It’s about money, not skin color. So fuck his cause

          1. So one guy getting away with murder negates the 400 years of systematic institutionalized racism thrown at black people. Nice logic.

    2. Another “All-Star” story by HipHopDX. This whole BlackLivesMatter campaign seems to be a soon to be violent uprising which will do nothing but lead to more violence. Colin not standing had nothing to do with the movement to begin with since it was basically a publicity stunt. Every person that sits here and says that the government doesn’t like black people or any other race should take a trip to a country like China, India or the Ivory Coast and see what really matters in life. #LivingFreeMatters

      1. “Colin not standing had nothing to do with the movement to begin with since it was basically a publicity stunt.” Had nothing to do with what movement? Have you not heard the reason for his protest? Lol, it’s been all over social media for the past couple weeks, yet people are fixated on him not standing for the national anthem instead of talking about why he didn’t. Please get out of your bubble and go educate your self about the systematic oppression against people of color in this country… I swear people like you are brainwashed and are perfect for this kind of system…

        1. Apparently you didn’t read the post fully. Systematic oppression huh? Do you understand if you typed what you did in another country you would be arrested or possibly in killed. Colin used the #BlackLivesMatter movement as more of an excuse to disrespect the country but hasn’t done anything else in regards to the movement. Here’s a question for you. What oppression have you experienced in your entire lifetime? These oppression issues have occurred in the past, don’t get me wrong, but you nor anyone you have been around has experienced it. Before you call someone brainwashed, how about you take a history class and see what your elders dealt with and compare it to what your dealing with today. One other note, go to a different country and see what they experience. Where you get all of your freedoms here on the Internet and in the US, some people aren’t guaranteed clean water or food for the next week. #LivingFreeMatters

            1. Yes I do know what it means. And there wasn’t reason to call people names. Maybe before commenting with your “constructive criticism” you should do a Google search and look at the facts about systemic oppression as we see it and how other countries see it. Thanks for the reply though Greenhouse Militia.

            2. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. Other countries have nothing to do with the fact that black people have gotten screwed over constantly by this country again and again through housing, education, police brutality, the workplace, and even the justice system. And you clearly know nothing about Black Lives Matter if you’re spewing the same lies from Fox News and idiot Trump supporters.

            3. I don’t think you know what it is. You talk about it, and when asked you give examples but no free thinking answers. You’re parroting what the media and our terrible celebrities tell you. You all won’t be happy until this country isn’t free. When we have no first and second amendment. You’re doing all this rioting for what? So an old white politician can make laws? Do you not understand how asinine that is for the cause you’re saying the looting and rioting is for? What’s really going to be news is when these looters run into people who are tired of it and fight back. It will be spun that they are in fact racist cause they didn’t allow the looting and destroying of their livelihoods to happen. Seriously. Most of the comments are so ignorant have nothing to with George Floyd. Out here in the Bay Area the rioters are using Twitter for meetups. Can’t even spell George right. These are the people you’re championing? They can do that but Twitter and Facebook silence people who have opposing views who aren’t violent. Just say you don’t want free speech, or a free country.

        2. To finish off this thread, I want you and many people to realize that the U.S. is not perfect in any way but we are better off the many other countries. This whole oppression bit would be laughed at and scoffed by historic black leaders. BlackLivesMatter isn’t really does no much for the community. Why aren’t we seeing these people mentor children, help others in their community, and actually provide help for others instead of making a “statement” by not standing the national anthem or by sending another hashtag on Facebook or Twitter. PS – That shit doesn’t work to change anything. Also thank you Hustle for the reply.

    3. Coles energy during his performance was pretty fucking good, almost had me throwing up my hands in this quiet ass office lol

    4. Colin is a traitor who perpetuates violence against all people. It was never about the movement. It’s about money. He don’t want to play football. He wants attention. He wants to get paid from all this. It’s funny. He does a Nike ad that everyone supported. Then all the rioters looted the Nike stores. Some movement

    5. Racism is big business in the USA – Kap got a multi million dollar nike deal from his kneeling campaign, way more lucrative than a 3rd string QB contract or even worse a CFL contract which is where he was headed
