Xzibit has recently taken fellow Los Angeles native Awol One under his wing. The west coast Hip Hop vet will be executive producing Awol’s upcoming independent album, Owl Hours. The album will feature guests Aesop Rock [click to read], Myka 9, and Xzibit’s own affiliates from back in his underground days, Tha Alkaholiks.

It is no huge surprise that Xzibit has chosen to align himself with the indie rapper. With almost 12 years and seven albums under his belt, Awol One has worked with the likes of KRS-One [click to read], Kool Keith [click to read], The Shape Shifters crew, and more. Although his sound, considered “electronic pop” or “folk hop” is not considered conventional in mainstream Hip Hop, he has proven to be quite successful within the underground circuit.

Awol’s Owl Hours is set to drop on July 21. Below, Xzibit and Awol put in studio time for a track on the album called “Brains Out.”
