Lil Wayne had a successful evening at MTV‘s Video Music Awards. After winning, performing and performing again, Weezy was one of the most notable artists in the show. Although some expected him to be living it up on an after-party hopping spree, the rapper decided to opt out to tend to legal obligations. Instead of partying, he spent the night flying to New York to appear in court for a 2007 gun charge.

“He is the utmost, consummate professional,”Weezy‘s lawyer Stacey Richman said of the flight. “He recognizes his entertainment obligations, his business obligations and his obligations to the court.”

In 2007, his tour bus was stopped and searched by police. After the search, a gun was found and that landed Wayne with one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Diane Hornung, an officer on the scene, the marijuana smell coming from the vehicle made them suspicious. Once they stopped and searched, she claims to have seen Weezy in his underwear, attempting to hide a gun in a bag.

Now, Wayne‘s lawyer notes that the hearing hopes to investigate whether or not the stop, search and questioning was properly done or if it was illegal.
