Funk Flex has responded to both LL COOL J and Akademiks following the media personality’s recent comments about Hip Hop culture’s architects and pioneers.
Shortly after the “Rock The Bells” legend berated Akademiks for calling older rappers “dusty,” Flex shared one of his infamous all-caps Instagram posts and applauded both parties — despite their polar opposite views.

“@LLCOOL J BREAKS DOWN THE CULTURE THEN AND NOW IN AMAZING FORM! PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING WORDS OF THE YEAR!” he began. “@AKADEMIKS LOVE MY BROTHER! I DIDN’T POST YOUR COMMENTARY BECAUSE I FELL IT WOULD BE MISS UNDERSTOOD!
“YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION! I AM A FAN OF YOUR PERSPECTIVE! I KNOW THAT SOME (NOT ALL) OF THE MORE ESTABLISHED VETERAN RAPPERS HAVE NOT EMBRACED U LIKE THEY SHOULD! LETS CHANGE THAT!”
Funk Flex also suggested Akademiks should sit down with LL COOL J or another Hip Hop pioneer of his choice to have a civil discussion about the topic at hand, while referring to Akademiks as the “VOICE OF THE YOUTH.” He also mentioned his own short-lived beef with Conway The Machine.
“WE COULD LEARN FROM U AND U COULD LEARN FROM US! WOULD LOVE TO SEE AN ARTIST LIKE AN ALL OR ONE U CHOOSE TO HAVE A GREAT NON-CONFRONTATIONAL CONVO ON YOUR PLATFORM OR MINE!” he continued.
“WHICH EVER MAKES U COMFORTABLE…U FROM THE TOWN. YOUR VERY INFLUENTIAL. CANT HURT. IF THAT DOESNT WORK FOR U I UNDERSTAND! IF ME AND @WHOISCONWAY CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.”
Aside from LL COOL J, several other Hip Hop legends have responded to Akademiks’ comments, including Scorpio of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, MC Sha-Rock, Mister Cee, Goodie Mob’s Khujo, Z-Trip and Sugarhill Gang’s Hen Dogg.

“It’s true that we didn’t receive the fruits of labor,” Sha-Rock told HipHopDX. “However, it does not negate from the billion dollar business that we’d created for future men, women and youth to prosper from. Not to mentioned we were labeled as being ‘dusty’ old school rappers was so disrespectful on all levels.”
