OG Ron C is among a number of Houston artists who have declared a boycott against Wiz Khalifa after the rapper went off at a DJ and host in a Los Angeles nightclub at the weekend.
In the viral clip, Khalifa is seen screaming at DJ Mike Danger and MC Tron in front of the audience at Poppy Night Club on Friday (July 29), reportedly incensed the pair weren’t playing any selections from his latest album Multiverse, which was released on the same day.
“Bitch ass n-gga, if you wanna fight, n-gga we can do it,” Khalifa can be heard saying. “Y’all n-ggs suck, don’t hug me bitch. Y’all n-ggas suck. Play my new shit n-gga, play it n-gga, play ‘Bad Ass Bitches.’ Y’all are horrible DJs. I came here tonight to promote for y’all and have a good ass time and have a great time, but you know what I’m not gonna do?”
He added: “I’m not gonna sit here and let these hoe ass n-ggas act like this shit is acceptable. I’m a real ass n-ggas dawg. My album just came out today. My album just came out today, play my new shit dawg.”
The incident has prompted responses from a number of members of the DJ community, and in Houston a boycott of Wiz and his music has been called for, co-signed by OG Ron C.
On Tuesday (August 2), the Chopped and Screwed legend shared a statement originally posted by DJ Jack Frost. “Houston Concert Promoters Don’t Bring Wiz Khalifa,” the statement begins. “All DJs Stop Playing His Music That Could Have Been You Or Me. Cancel His Azz.”
Ron C captioned the Instagram post: “TOGETHER WE STAND #djsunited”
After much criticism was levied in the direction of Wiz following the incident, Bootleg Kev, who was present at the performance, came to the rapper’s defense claiming that his reaction was totally justified.
“Let’s clear up this Wiz shit,” he began. “I was there with him, & the dj & host TERRIBLE. After fucking up his performance (4-5x) he finally snapped. I’m not condoning him slapping the hat off or none of that, and I know he regrets that. But so much led up to that point.”
When someone pointed out to OG Ron C that Bootleg Kev was present and “cleared it up,” the DJ and producer responded in kind with regards to Bootleg Kev, but stood by his initial stance.
“MUCH RESPECT TO THE GREAT @bootlegkev BUT ENUFF IS ENUFF,” Ron C wrote.
Wiz’s outburst has not sat well with other members of the DJ community either, with DJ Rob Swift of the X-Ecutioners taking to Instagram soon after the incident to call out the Taylor Gang head for his behavior.
“The arrogance from @wizkhalifa towards the house DJs in this video encapsulates the puffed up sense of importance from a lot of you rappers,” he wrote on Instagram. “I don’t know what it is about holding a microphone to your mouth that gives rappers like @wizkhalifa a sense of grandiosity but let me be the first one to say, I’ve sat behind the scenes with many of y’all and I see right through the act. Most of y’all are insecure, can’t fight and none of y’all are killers, that’s for sure!”
Kid Capri has also weighed in, explaining that he was disappointed in Wiz as he thought he was a good guy. He even said if he was the DJ at Poppy Night Club he would have “swung on” Wiz.
“When I met you, you was a cool dude, man,” Capri said. “That’s why I’m a little surprised why you would disrespect those DJs like that. Those kids is young dudes, probably, you know, scared and nervous that they playing for you, happy that they’re playing for you. [They’re] probably not as professional and on-point as you are, but for you to stand up there and disrespect them like that, man, that was just crazy.”
“They’re young kids, and I get it, but these are the same dudes that play your music, man. DJs play your music, you know what I’m saying? But you get in front of that crowd and disrespect them like that, I just didn’t agree with that. That was wack.”
Considering how many clubs and parties I’ve been to where DJs absolutely ruin the vibe with all their bs I can totally see a situation where they were messing up. Seems self explanatory to play some of the artists latest and greatest if they’re the guest of honor. That being said Wiz should’ve found another way to express that. Either way the boycott won’t hurt him because he’s fallen off way too much for anyone to even pay attention to this
Those were some wack DJs F’in up the show with their buffoonery. In Hip Hop you checked for being wack.
no one cares. DJs are irrelevant now.
and if you call yourself OG you’re not
Especially DJ Khaled.
I can tell you never leave the house. DJs selling out Vegas and stadiums on their own. Welcome to the real world
Cool. So Rock out with the aux cord and a playlist. That shit will never equal a skilled DJ.
Nobody has listened to Wiz Khalifa since 2010 with Black and Yellow. How y’all going to boycott someone we don’t care about?
Wiz sucks never liked him but I’m on his side play his new shit if he right there in the club dam
so these guys will play any kind of filth and degeneracy no problem just don’t mean mug em – local DJs are known for this kind of passive aggressive nonsense on the set. maybe it wasn’t the best look for Wiz but now dudes want to boycott? so weak the game is weak sauce boy. needs full scale cleanup. every crew got to be responsible for their own music in the new game. no more generic music that’s what led to this
Passive aggressive or active aggressive, nobody’s programming my set.
It’s because his new music is garbage nobody wants to hear
P
I’m guessing because his old music is better then his new music. It’s a trend see
I LIKE WIZ BUT THE NEW ALBUM IS WACK. FAKE ASS DJ QUIK.
