Big Sean was recognized for his contributions to the Black community during the Juneteenth Foundation’s Inaugural Juneteenth Honors Ceremony in Washington D.C. on Sunday (June 19).
The Detroit rapper and philanthropist was awarded as a result of his “extraordinary track record of service to the Black community” during the inaugural celebration, which aired on FOX SOUL. The event was hosted by Terrence J and legendary rapper MC Lyte, with other honorees including the Grammy-award-winning singer Maxwell and Harlem rap pioneer Doug. E Fresh.
The event paid homage to the achievements of other Black luminaries and also handed out $250,000 in scholarships to students at HBCU’s. T.I., Keri Hilson and Rick Ross were a few of the big-name artists who also performed at the event.

Big Sean Brings Out Jhené Aiko & YG For Career Spanning Solo Set At Coachella
Big Sean wasn’t the only member of his family to be given an award recently. His late grandmother, Mildred V. Leonard, was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal at the Military Women’s Memorial on Wednesday (June 15). Leonard was a World War II veteran who was part of the Women’s Army Corps’ 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female battalion sent overseas during the war. Sean’s grandmother’s battalion was so successful that it contributed to the desegregation of the military.
Big Sean’s massive achievement also comes as pregnancy rumors begin to swirl involving his longtime girlfriend Jhené Aiko. The couple was reportedly spotted at Whole Foods by a fan who said Aiko is “very pregnant.” Neither Aiko or Sean have confirmed or denied these reports.
