Veteran Hip Hop icon Sir Mix-A-Lot just celebrated a major milestone for his 1992 Grammy Award-winning rap anthem.

On Saturday (May 7), Sir Mix-A-Lot acknowledged the anniversary of his OG body-positive banger “Baby Got Back” by remarking on his intentions for the record three decades after its original release.

“Today…… Baby Got Back turns 30! I’d definitely be lying my ass off if I told you I knew it the whole time. The song was intended to be a response to (what was then) the beauty standards in America & y’all made it into something far bigger. Thank you!” he tweeted.

In 2017, for the 25th anniversary of the defining record, the 58-year-old Washington native opened up about the process of recording the song with the legendary producer and co-founder of Def Jam, Ruck Rubin.

“‘Baby Got Back’ was originally supposed to be a slow, serious song, and that sucked,” he said. “That didn’t even raise Rick [Rubin]’s eyebrows. So I sped it up and did it again. When I sent it back to him, he put an exclamation point behind one of his comments and wanted me to take the music out [during] the punchlines, because that’s what was going to last forever. Boy, was he right.”
