In a new feature interview with DubCNN.com, D.O.C., one of Dr. Dre‘s longest affiliates, dating back to the late 1980s, spoke at length about some of the elements of Dre‘s mythical Detox album. Among speculation of an appearance by The Game, Nate Dogg and others, D.O.C. was nearly adamant that Ice Cube and MC Ren would not likely be guests.
“I don’t know about that one. That’s a stretch,” said the Texas born emcee-turned-songwriter who released the classic 1989 album No One Can Do It Better. D.O.C. alluded that if a reunion of the living members of N.W.A. were to happen (excluding Yella), it would be on his next album, reportedly titled Voices Through Hot Vessels.
Continuing, the rapper spoke on turmoil within the busy schedules of N.W.A. members. “That’s between those guys. They each got their lives, and they all doing
well. It’s like three cooks in a kitchen, they ain’t got to be in the kitchen
together, they straight. But I do believe when it comes to my record, I’ll be
able to pull some shit off to be able to give the world some dope-ass shit. At
least we know if I’m writing it, it’s going to all be dope.” Since the group’s disbanding in 1991, Ice Cube, MC Ren and Dr. Dre have recorded two songs as a trio under the N.W.A. name, “Hello” and “Chin Check.” Neither featured Yella.
Presently, D.O.C. is working on writing Dr. Dre‘s verses for Detox. He added that he has written new material with Kanye West and others in mind.
