Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The famous Roots Picnic, which is held annually in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will have a lot of big things going for it in 2022.

The major music festival will be touching down at the Mann Center in Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park this year, and the organizers just unleashed their star-studded lineup for the event. The announcement was made on Tuesday (February 15) with an Instagram post revealing the flyer and the long list of artists popping up between June 4-5.

Mary J. Blige leads the pack alongside The Roots as the main headliners following her spirited Super Bowl LVI Halftime performance on Sunday (February 13). Hip Hop will also be well-represented this year as Freddie Gibbs, Rick Ross, Black Thought, Benny The Butcher, G Herbo, Tierra Whack, Babyface Ray and more will be holding it down for the culture.

“This year, the picnic is a love letter to Philadelphia. Thank you for supporting us for 15 years. We’re bringing you a 2 day festival (!!) that represents the Mosaic of Black Culture. Music, Podcasts, and an experience unlike no other,” festival organizers wrote in the caption of their announcement on Instagram.

There was initially no clear reason why Wale pulled out of the festival until fans began connecting the dots and presumed Wale was upset with his placement and set time.
