Lil Nas X Wonders Where ‘Satan Shoes’ Outrage Is For Tony Hawk’s Blood Skateboards

Lil Nas X caused a firestorm of controversy in July when he unleashed his customized Nike “Satan Shoes,” which came with one cc of human blood in the sole. Outrage — mostly from Christian conservatives — flooded the Twitter timeline and Nike eventually filed a lawsuit to stop the shoes from being sold.

But when professional skateboarder and all-around pop culture icon Tony Hawk announced he was selling 100 skateboards infused with his own blood, Lil Nas X couldn’t help but point out the hypocrisy, noting the lack of backlash made it clear to him people were more offended by his homosexuality than the actual shoe.

On Wednesday morning (August 25), the Grammy Award-winning artist shared a tweet that read, “Now that Tony Hawk has released skateboards with his blood painted on them, and there was no public outrage, are y’all ready to admit y’all were never actually upset over the blood in the shoes? and maybe u were made for some other reason?”

But those in the comment section were quick to point out it likely had nothing to do with the blood — or Lil Nas X’s sexual preference.

As Christian rapper Ruslan wrote, “Sir, you’re very talented and smart. Please don’t continue to miss the point. Folks didn’t like your shoes because it was a Satan shoe. And the vast majority of people, irregardless of their view towards your sexuality, don’t play with satanic imagery. No one’s out to get you.”

Another commenter shared, “I don’t recall ever seeing people freak out over the blood in the shoes by itself. Its the fact that you tied it to ‘satanism’ and put your blood into it. You bring in religion to anything and people will flip. Tony didn’t. That’s why it was better received.”

And they could be right. The skating legend partnered with subscription-based water and merchandise company Liquid Death for a limited run of skateboards, each with Hawk’s blood mixed into the deck paint — but there’s no mention of Satan.

The promotional run will consist of 100 skateboards, each with “a vial’s worth of Hawk’s DNA” as a part of the deck paint. The boards cost $500 apiece and were up for sale through Liquid Death.

Then again, Lil Nas X also just announced his debut album, MONTERO, is imminent and this could be the perfect way to get people talking about him again. According to a press release, MONTERO is expected to arrive on September 17.

    1. Now Lil Nas X wants to be the victim. Doesnt he realize it was never about the blood part of his shoes ? It was about the satan part. If Lil Nas X had decided to sell cowboy boots with his blood (with no satanic theme) nobody would have cared. Tony Hawk isnt doing a satanic theme to justify the blood. He is doing a “DNA of a champion” theme so its a HUGE difference. This is not about being black or being gay. Theres just too many religious people in this country to do something with a satanic theme. Thats all. No racism or homophobia to cry about. Sorry to dissapoint the twitter people.

      1. Agreed. Plus Gen Z’s of modern America celebrate victimhood. What do you expect from a population with missing/ or ostracized fathers in their lives.

    2. Bruh, not the same. Nas X fake outrage is way off base with the comparison. Tony Hawks board is his board. He didn’t take a Nike board, customize it, then sell it. Dude, most people don’t care that you’re gay, get over it. If your music was super dope, then it wouldn’t be a thing at all. George Michael, Elton John, Freddy Murcury all dope artists that nobody knew or cared if they were gay. Hit the studio bro, scrap the gimmicks.

    3. Hahahaha. This guy keeps fucking with people’s emotions and cashing in on it. It’s hilarious. People stay big mad and he stays big paid. Quite ingenious.

      1. i resent that these internet companies hijack rap music for whatever pr scheme – you might think its funny just like theres things you may find sad I would love to see

      2. Ingenious? the fact that hes taking advantage of all the blind def and dumb people that have been brainwashed by main stream tv? Its SAD!!!! We went from eminem burning down houses to this black gay fucc slinging his dicc around naked in a music video? You know who runs the entertainment industry now? Black fat gay transexuals. Thats why hes popular and nothing else.

Its not smart or ingenious, its ruining music for your weirdo ass entertainment. Its people like YOU that keep this gay fucc relevant.

        Toms right everyone is brainwashed.

    4. I’m “made” you don’t have an editor and no one checks spelling or grammar in these articles.

    5. All trash x wants to do is embarrass black people and the black community in service of his handlers who hate black thought and black initiative nd as such seek to destroy hip hop at it’s root among other objectives. Communities are built with families and hard work things trash x would mock and spit on. He’s decided that it’s ok to be a glutton and a fool for profit – to stand for nothing except idiocy. The point is to be unbothered by your own idiotic betrayal of your own culture, your own foundation. wish he would start the “bury myself alive” challenge on Twitter
