Early this week, veteran Minneapolis rap duo Atmosphere announced their new album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold releasing on April 22. The team of Slug and Ant commemorate their sixth “official” album with a 40-page hardcover insert, complete with lyrics, liner notes and a children’s story written by Slug. A bonus DVD is also included, featuring over one hour of performance in the group’s hometown.

Historically, the Rhymesayers Entertainment group has supplied the press and radio with a wide array of listening advances. To combat increased bootlegging, the independent DIY label is now strictly hosting listening sessions, leading up to the release date in New York and Los Angeles.

To date, Atmosphere has sold over one million records, and performed over 2,000 shows. After being an underground entity dating back to the early ’90s, the group steadily increased its fanbase through touring and distribution deals with Warner Brothers and Punk imprint Epitaph. With the MTV2 support of their 2003 video “Trying To Find A Balance,” the duo would later appear on Late Night With Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live for the promotion of their last official album You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having.
