The debate over who’s the greatest rapper or rap group of all time is ongoing and will likely never cease. After all, everyone has different tastes, making the tireless conversation completely subjective and heavily based on opinion. But Juicy J is convinced he’s knows who takes the crown — and unsurprisingly, it’s his own group.
On Tuesday (December 1), the Memphis rap vet headed to Instagram where he claimed Three 6 Mafia reigned over all other rap artists.
“Who the best group ever did it ?” he asked. “THREE6 ……..The hustle continues.”
Formed in 1991, Three 6 Mafia initially consisted of Juicy J, DJ Paul, Koopsta Knicca, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous and Gangsta Boo. Their debut album Mystic Stylez was released in 1995 and eventually became a cult classic.
As Three 6 went on to achieve mainstream success, two of their albums — 2000’s When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 and 2005’s Most Known Unknown — were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2006, the group became the first Hip Hop group in history to win an Oscar when they took home the gilded trophy for Best Original Song for “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp,” which was featured in the film Hustle & Flow.
Although Three 6 hasn’t released an album since 2008’s Last 2 Walk, Juicy J continues to thrive. In 2011, he announced he was a part-owner and A&R rep for Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang Records imprint and the following year, he signed a solo deal with Columbia Records and Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records but has since left.
His most recent solo album, The Hustle Continues, was released on November 27 and featured A$AP Rocky, Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Megan Thee Stallion, his brother Project Pat, Logic, Conway The Machine and more.
Check it out below.
They’re alright but best group ever? Not a chance. Groups that are better off the top of my head…. The Fugees, Wu-Tang, Outkast, De La Soul, NWA, Bone Thugs, The Roots. Not slagging them off, I own a couple of albums but they’re not in that conversation.
Wu tang clan aint nuthin to f*ck with j better remember that
Chill
Bruh.

Just say no to drugs…LOL…
Ugk hotboyz ghetto Boyz eightball mjg
They might win for most influential as far as their production goes..
It seems ridiculous, but a lot of modern rap has three 6 influence all over it, and a lot of popular music has modern rap influence all over it. I’m not saying they’re the greatest, but their influence is often understated.
Id say its a 3-way tie between Three Six Mafia, Bone Thugs and NWA. But Juicy dont lie, they up there.
As he should think his crew is the best
Best ever from Memphis probably. Beyond that not even top 20
Bone thugs n harmony, Outkast, Wu tang,
ugk4life outkast ball g
but i guess 2 is a duo
group
bone geto boys nwa wu tribe souls of mischief run dmc if ya countin dj format but more a duo all before 3 6 for me but they made they impact
I’m not against rap, I’m not even against rappers! but I am against those Thugs!
Bone killed it in their prime and if you just listen to their main hits that got them popular in the 90s you are missing out on a LOT of good music. Everybody bite bones style now.
Top group of all time hands down.
Ain’t no one listening to juicy solo shit.. last 2 walk gets hate but the production is fire.. dj Paul’s scale-a-ton was hard too
*is
I wouldn’t say the best… probably top 5 tho
But one thing yall can’t deny is that 3 6 is definitely the most influential rap group of all time
How so?? more than N.W.A? Run DMC? Outkast? Bone? Wu? Cypress Hill? Geto Boys? one of the most ok no issues but you said the most.
Wu Tang Clan.
Wu-tang is 1 word! Idiot!
Witty Unpredictable Talent And Natural Game. I count 6.
Longevity and influence in the game, Triple 6 is up there with the elites.
I can’t talk down on 3-6 because they did they thing hands down nothing but respect. But I wouldn’t put them up there with Run Dmc, Tribe, De la soul, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Wu tang Clan, Outkast, but 3-6 are legends and deserved to be treated as such
Horse shoe gang by far…..
3 6 have their legacy, wont deny that. Best? Naw. I know groups like bone, beasties, lox, tribe, soul etc. All are incredible and very important too but cmon man. Wutang is forever. Just looking purely at longevity, talent and influence its not even close. The W symbol and brand goes way beyond rap at this point. How rappers sign deals, production, slang, skits. They have touched every corner of rap, worked with everyone and manage to still drop quality almost 30 years in. Even 3 6 mafia can’t touch 36 chambers.
There has to be a criteria and I would say that A. Record sales B. Classic albums C. Classic songs D. Best collabs E. Tours F. Longevity I gotta go Wu tang /Bone Thugs/ Outkast in no order. Wu tang was going over seas in being treated like the beatles, Bone dropped liked 10 straight group, solo, compilation albums . Outkast dropped a diamond album along with 2 classic albums, and a dope movie to me lol I know a lot of people don’t like Idlewild i though it was really good. Allen Iverson might be your favorite but anybody with common knowledge of the game not going to argue with you that A.I did it at a higher lever than M.J or Lebron, their is a difference between your favorite and who did it a the highest level. I’m not bias my fav group is mobb deep and Epmd.
Definitely Legends/Icons But Can’t Touch Outkast, UGK, 8Ball And MJG, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Geto Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, Etc
Bone has like 10 straight platinum albums including group, solo’s, a few featured compilation album. Outkast crossed over popularity wise and was still dropping fire music and went diamond. Outkast killed the narrative that south didn’t have lyrics or flow. Their have been a lot of dope groups that have left a imprint on it, im a fan of them all even if its only a song or two. Cypress hill, Ugk, epmd, Three 6 mafia, do or die, dayton family, t.r.u, clipse, Ghetto mafia, young gunz, meth and red, 8 ball and Mjg, westside connection, too many to name but everybody deserves they love. I just wished slaughterhouse could have drop in the 90’s they fit right in they were too raw for the game now.
First it was the versus battle request with Nas, now it’s the claim Three 6 Mafia is the greatest group of all time! Juicy must be taking a lot of drugs lately. Somebody better calm him down before he continues exposing his self.
to me its kinda a toss up between Wu and NWA…but i’m leaning towards the Wu…so unbelievable discography with countless remixes, side projects, collabs…even the first generation of extended wu fam alone is crazy: sunz of men, killarmy, king just, shyheim, la the darkman, just to name a few….wu is too much, each member has his own crew, and even their entourage got entourages…and going beyond just music, with clothing, video games, movies, contracts, cultural impact etc etc…Wu Forever
Nobody know them extending crews from wu tang but wu tang fans nobody listen to that cornball trash.
you’re the cornball. despite that dumb shit you said, Wu Tang is still #1
Even the Beastie Boys are more influential than 36
Naw fam it’s definitely city girls
Public Enemy. Wu Tang. NWA. Pick one.
Outkast and bone thug
3-6 mafia ain’t been the same since Yo Gotti blew up. Memphis don’t rock with 3-6 at all no more.
I’d say Bone thug n harmony if I had to pick one group im a fan of three six mafia too they
got album and songs that go real hard.
