Travis Scott and Kid Cudi piqued the interest of Hip Hop fans worldwide when they teamed up for “THE SCOTTS.” The collaborative track, which they billed under THE SCOTTS moniker, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Cudi’s first chart-topping single and Scott’s third.
According to Scott’s new interview with GQ, there’s much more where that came from. During the conversation, the Astroworld wizard confirmed a joint project between the two rap stars was imminent. After playing an unreleased track from the forthcoming effort, Scott explained, “I think with this next project I’m just embodying all of the knowledge I’ve taken in and trying to make the best form of it.”
When asked what to expect from the album, Scott replied, “Man, a lot. Some fireness!”
Scott’s most recent studio album, Astroworld, was released in 2018 and shot to the top of the Billboard 200, selling roughly 537,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Singles included “Butterfly Effect,” “Sicko Mode,” “Yosemite,” and “Wake Up” and guest features from Drake, Nav, Cudi, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, the late Juice Wrld and more.
Astroworld itself was the center of controversy after Nicki Minaj threw a fit about the album snagging the No. 1 spot while her album Queen landed at No. 2. She claimed he only outperformed her because of the album bundles he was offering at the time.
During a August 2018 episode of Queen Radio, she called Scott the “Hoe nigga of the week” and insisted Queen was the No. 1 album — despite what Billboard says.
“What we’re not gonna do is have that Auto-Tune man selling fucking sweaters telling you he sold half a million albums, because he fucking didn’t,” she said. “You stupid fuck. You got your fucking homeboy talking for you and you got your girlfriend selling tour passes. Stop it. Knock it the fuck off.”
Since then, Billboard has amended the rules when it comes to counting album sales. In November 2019, Billboard announced they’d decided to eliminate the practice of counting albums bundled with merchandise and concert tickets on its album and song charts altogether.
