Roddy Ricch released his debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocialin December 2019, but he’s already looking ahead to his next project.

In a new interview with GQ, the Compton rapper confirmed he’s working on the follow-up to his breakthrough album. However, he’s in no rush to give it to the world just yet.

“Could I drop a new album right now? Yes. Will I? No,” he said. “It’s really not about it being ready or not ready. It’s more about the timing. I really just drop when I feel like it. The next album is going to be a full blown masterpiece. A real idea. A real body of work.”

Roddy has experienced so much success in the past year, it’s no wonder he’s feeling confident about future releases. In February, Antisocial became the longest-running debut rap album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart since 50 Cent’sGet Rich Or Die Tryin’ in 2003.

Roddy Ricch Calms His Nerves With A Joint After Drake Collaboration Leaks

Despite COVID-19 affecting the industry significantly, Roddy feels like quarantine has actually helped him in terms of recording music. Spare time has allowed him to reflect on the music he’s making by taking breaks in between.

“Maybe I make a little less music but I feel like for me right now less is more,” he said. “Because then when I step in the booth I’ll say some crazy shit. I could work for two or three days and make fifty songs. And then I’ll step away for like a week. Less is more. Spending more time figuring out how I feel and figuring out different things around me.”

Roddy says he’s been listening to music from Snoh Alegra, Charlie Wilson and Stevie Wonder during his downtime.

Outside of solo releases, Roddy is currently enjoying success as a featured artist. As of Monday’s (August 10) Billboard 100 chart, he appears on DaBaby’s “Rockstar” at No. 2, Pop Smoke’s “The Woo” at No. 38 and NLE Choppa’s “Walk Em Down” at No. 70. Not only that, but “The Box” is still going strong at No. 45 after spending a total of 34 weeks on the chart.

A collaboration between Roddy and Drake — known as “In the Cut” — leaked in July, but there’s no news on whether the song will appear on his upcoming album.
