Ex-Slaughterhouse MCs Joell Ortiz & KXNG Crooked Announce ‘H.A.R.D.’ Collaborative Album

Although Slaughterhouse, arguably one of the most talented Hip Hop groups ever assembled, is no more, two of its former members have decided to continue with the collaborations.

On Thursday (May 6), Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked revealed that they had been cooking up a full-length album by the name of H.A.R.D. and rolled out a single by the same name.

The Heatmakerz-produced track features vocalist MRK SX and chronicles the two venerable MCs’ humble beginnings to current and is dedicated to fellow lyricist Fred The Godson, who succumbed to coronavirus-related complications on April 23.

“It felt great to catch up with my bro and chop it up!” Joell exclaimed to Complex, who premiered the track. “We’re like long lost cousins. Crook and I grew up 2,800 miles apart under the same conditions. Poverty, struggle, injustice, etc. Whenever we get together we have rap discussions and world talks that almost always turn into legendary childhood stories. This time was no different, except, this time we ended up in the vocal booth. This is ‘H.A.R.D.’ (Housing Authority Rap District). Enjoy!!!”

Joell’s West Coast counterpart shared his enthusiasm lamenting, “All of this shit was meant to happen. 2020 has been rough for a lot of people so I’m glad we can bless the culture with high art. One of my favorite things about this project is the fact that I got to hang out with Fred The Godson during the creative process. I don’t think Joell would mind me speaking for him when I say this project is dedicated to the loving memory of Fred. Hope y’all fuck with it.”

    1. This under 10 track shit is really getting stupid…I ain’t looking for a 20+ track scam album like Migos did, but what happened to 12-15 track album? 8 tracks can be recorded in a weekend, you can’t take another 2 days and drop 5-6 more and give a complete album. Can’t even get thru a workout at the gym with 8 tracks. I’m sure this will be dope, but fuck man…only 8 tracks from this caliber of mc’s is disappointing. It just makes it feel half assed knowing these 2 could def hold down, at the very least, a 12 track full length

      1. It used to be like that with 12 tracks. Sometimes 14+ bonus track and or hidden track or exclusive track from circuit city or best buys. Arist only got paid publishing for 10 tracks on an album. So those labels really were hesitant to do more, they felt they were wasting material. Except for Master P. He gave about 22 tracks regardless. But artist made about 20-50 songs just to pick 10 for the album. Early MJ, Prince and Rick James albums were like 8 tracks and maybe had the extended single version to make 9 tracks. They were racking up on songs and holding on to many for some long range purpose.

    2. Wow I am actually looking forward to this one.. RIP Fred.. an album with this trio would have been even better!
