JoJo Nearly Gets Derailed By Drake’s Surprise Release But Receives Co-Sign From R&B Legend

JoJo wasn’t expecting to compete with Drake when she dropped her Good To Know album on Friday (May 1). But Drizzy threw her — and everyone else putting out projects this week — for a loop with the surprise release of his Dark Lane Demo Tapes.

The R&B singer reacted by tweeting “Damn Drake” when the OVO star snatched away the spotlight from her first studio LP in four years. Although JoJo’s album ceded attention to Drizzy’s unexpected project, she got a nice consolation prize from a diamond-selling legend.

Following the LP’s release, Mariah Carey promoted JoJo’s project with a Twitter shoutout on Friday.

“Loving @iamjojo’s new album #GoodtoKnow!!” she wrote. “Congratulations dahhliiing!!! check it out everybody!!”

JoJo was delighted to receive support from the Grammy Award-winning superstar, posting about Carey’s positive feedback a few hours later.

“What queen said!!!!!!!!!!!” she exclaimed. “Wow. God is really smiling on me tonight.”

JoJo’s Good To Know is her first studio album since leaving Atlantic Records. The nine-track project was released through Warner Records as part of a partnership with her Clover Music imprint.

    1. JoJo, out shined by Drake, when you took you forever to drop another album, how dare he!!! It reminds me of a song you did JoJo called ” Too Little Too Late” lol. She does have a great voice and very beautiful, but she will forgotten and these carbon copy new r&b girls will filter and drown her out, maybe leak some nudes or jump on a reality show and they will care for your album. That is what sells these days and its pathetic. Not talent, not range and not completeness, it’s all about the other intangibles. Unfortunately she has label issues and many delays and hope she will get some recognition, like here

    2. JoJo is extremely talented, great voice, great song writer. I wouldn’t say she got derailed because the people that are going to support her project are going to support anyway. Personally I don’t listen to drake, I tried but just can’t take him serious at all. I’ll check JoJo album out, the last album I heard from her was about 3 years back, It was more of a EP I thought it was good added a few songs to my playlist.

    3. Dope album! R and B artist usually drop good singles and trash albums. This album from Jojo is dope all the way through.

    4. Most consistent R&B work from a women I’ve heard in Years. R&B from female side has been horrible in the last 15 years.
She has a throwback voice and you mixed that with great new production and it’s hitting. I thought Elle Varner album was gonna be good. It had one good song on it, the song that actually made me want to listen to the album. This joint from jojo sounds better than anything Beyonce has done, to me B is very talented but her music sucks.
