Despite the Billboard controversy earlier this year, Lil Nas X’s crossover smash “Old Town Road (Remix)” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus has been nominated for a Country Music Award.

The CMA County Music Twitter account tweeted some of the nominees on Wednesday (August 28), which also included Maren Morris’ “All My Favorite People,” Brooks & Dunn’s “Brand New Man,” Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton’s “Dive Bar” and Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Hall’s “What Happens In A Small Town.”

Nas X quickly expressed his gratitude to the CMA panel on Twitter as well.

“thank you guys for this nomination!!!” he wrote.

In March, Billboard removed the song from its Hot Country Songs chart, explaining the song doesn’t “embrace enough elements of today’s country music” to remain included.

Since then, the song has become the longest-running No. 1 single on the Hot 100, beating Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s 2017 single “Despacito” and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s 1995 collaboration “One Sweet Day,” which were previously tied for the record at 16 weeks.

Although the “Old Town Road” reign came to an end this month, Nas X is still hitting career milestones. On Monday (August 26), the 20-year-old took home his first MTV VMA for Best Song.

The 53rd CMA Awards ceremony airs live on November 13.
