Guitar Center presented “GC Sessions” yesterday in New York City. Featuring informative and proactive sessions, demonstrations and performances by influential players in Hip-Hop, the goal of “Sessions” is to provide fun and interactive tutorials for aspiring musicians within the Hip-Hop culture.
Hosted by DMC and DJ Hapa (LA Scratch academy), this was the second in what will become a series if sessions. The first took place in Hollywood last year.
“How can Hip-Hop be dead when we’re standing right here,” said DMC when speaking to the crowd about why events like this are important.
Other participants in last night’s session were Rob Swift, Chuck D, Buckshot, DJ Second Nature, Grand Wizard Theodore, Large Professor, 88 Keys, DJ Jab and Dru Ha. In addition to performances and demonstrations, panel discussions ranged from the evolution of DJ’ing to improving the stae of Hip-Hop.

“If people want to know what Hip-Hop needs today, they need to do what he did with it,” said DMC, bigging up Chuck D, whom he said was his favorite rapper.
While Chuck D remained humble, his main point was that any artist within the Hip-Hop culture should always aspire to elevate their standards.
This unique event was the brainchild of Guitar Center representatives as a way to educate, conserve and inspire.
“We’re very proud of ‘Sessions’ as it is a perfect example of what we can do to go beyond the store and aid and teach musicians,” said Dustin Hinz, manager of event marketing and promotions for guitar center, “By connecting some of the most influential artists in Hip-Hop with up-and-coming musicians, hopefully we can play a part in fostering a new generation of talent.”
