Kevin Hart is attempting to move past the controversy that led to him stepping down as host of the 2019 Academy Awards. The comedy superstar has announced a new special titled Irresponsible, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 2.
Hart posted a teaser for the special via social media on Monday (March 11). The set was filmed during his Irresponsible Tour stop at the O2 Arena in London.
“Mark your calendars damn it,” he wrote on Instagram. “My Comedy special will be dropping on April 2nd on Netflix. I can’t wait….Let’s gooooooo #Irresponsible #ComedicRockStarShit #Netflix.”
Hart was supposed to host the 2019 Oscars but quickly stepped away from the gig after some of his past homophobic tweets resurfaced. The controversy also caused some people to revisit a bit from his 2010 comedy special in which he said one of his “biggest fears” was his son being gay.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” he announced on Twitter. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
The 2019 Academy Awards ultimately took place without any host.
