Fans who’ve wanted to see Lupe Fiasco perform his Food & Liquor album are finally getting an opportunity to do so. The Grammy Award-winning MC has announced a one-night-only concert in which he’ll perform his critically acclaimed debut in its entirety.
The special event is scheduled to take place at The Novo in Los Angeles on February 23. Album contributors Gemstones (formerly known as Gemini) and Matthew Santos will join Lupe for the performance
“The fans have been asking for it for a long time and the time finally felt right,” Lupe said in a press release. “This album speaks to a really interesting, but special time in my career and it’s cool to be able to share that in a new way with everyone.”
Food & Liquor was released in 2006, one year after his breakthrough guest appearance on Kanye West’s single “Touch the Sky.” The LP debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, received multiple Grammy nominations and earned a perfect score from HipHopDX in a review by former Editor-In-Chief Andreas Hale.
Lupe went on to release a sequel, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, in 2012. He chose to cancel plans for its follow-up, Pt. 2, in 2013.
