After blessing the world with “Hurts,” his well-manicured collaboration co-starring Pusha T and Chevy Woods, Los Angeles-based producer RVNES has unveiled the crimson-tinged official music video through a HipHopDX premiere.

And he’s here to give some authentic context behind the song’s creation.

“‘Hurts’ is a song that’s several years in the making and involved what I can only describe as fate,” RVNES exclusively tells DX. “I originally produced the song while living in Dallas, TX and it wasn’t until a year later that Pusha got on it. I didn’t even know it was official until he sent back the finished verse. We hadn’t heard any kind of full confirmation just that he liked the song, but he actually went into the studio after an Art Basel party in Miami one night to cut it.

“The day I got his email I got a Facebook memory of a photo of me, No Malice, and Pusha T backstage at a Clipse show in Atlanta seven years earlier. I literally met Pusha as a fan on the exact same day I got a track with him as a producer, just seven years apart. The reason I sat on the instrumental for so long and turned down so many other opportunities was because I knew in my gut something like this would happen. Then when Chevy came into my life and heard the record we got to chopping it up about what I was thinking and I immediately knew he could deliver. And boy did he. But that was almost a year after Pusha recorded his verse, and it would be another six months before visuals went into the works. ‘Hurts’ is almost six years old now and has gone through a long and tiresome journey that was fully worth it and just like fate told me to wait, fate told me now is the time to share what we’ve created with the world.”

Although that’s quite the backstory, RVNES has been true to his craft for years; having already collaborated with the likes of Young Dolph and Drake producer Supah Mario.
