This week on the charts Akon stands strong in the number two spot, the same place he stood last week. After eight weeks on the chart, he’s found a way to stay in the top ten for the better of the last month. What is even more interesting is the fact that he has almost outsold Jay-Z (Akon is at 1,221,730 while Jay-Z is at 1,238,703).

After debuting at the number one spot respectively, in
back to back weekly wins for Def Jam, Jeezy and Nas find themselves right next to one another (Jeezy at #7 and
Nas at #8). Nas continues to fall after opening strong, Jeezy has found a way back into the top ten after falling to 18th two weeks back.
Eminem
made the jump from 24th to 12th, selling another 40K this week. Top seller this week was the Dreamgirls Soundtrack, which only sold 66k in its’ fifth week.
Mos Def‘s Tru3 Magic, in
its second week made it all the way from 151st to 78th selling an
underwhelming 11K, but more news has been made about whether or not the
album was actually released. [Click Here for article!]

Not too many debuts this week, but one should be noted, indie darlings, Gym Class Heroes made their claim to the top 200 all the way at number 187 with their debut,
As Cruel as School Children.
It should be noted though that the album has been out for longer,
initially released in November, the album is still seeing some
surprising sales numbers. The top seller from last week, Omarion, found a way to stay in the top ten (but barely) at number ten. Bow Wow and Trick Daddy faltered a tiny bit, but still found themselves in healthy top 70 standings. The same cannot be said for
Styles P and DJ Clue, who both fell out of the top 100 failing to sell even 9K last week.

Mary J. Blige, Tyrese aka Black Ty and Fantasia have all stayed solid for the past four weeks they’ve been on the charts.
Mary J. Blige‘s album is still selling strong, while Fantasia and Tyrese are experiencing somewhat of a revival in the New Year.
Jay-Z and Snoop are also experiencing a New Year upswing, but Ghostface‘s
More Fish is about to fall out of the top 200, bowing out after selling only 70K in a month.

Somehow, Tupac, Lil Scrappy, Project Pat and even Jim Jones found a way to sell a lot more albums than Ghostface and are safely in the top 100.
