Google Home and Android users will soon have the option to hear the voice of John Legend anytime they want. At the I/O developers conference on Tuesday (May 8), Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed six new voices — including Legend’s dulcet tones — are being added as choices for the company’s virtual assistant.
Legend and the other new voices for Google Assistant were created by WaveNet, a technology that “allows Google to simulate an entire vocabulary with much less human recording,” according to CNET. A video of the acclaimed singer recording his lines aired at the I/O developers conference.
No official release date for the voices has been revealed, but the new options for Google Assistant are reportedly due out later this year. Legend’s involvement comes on the heels of him starring in a commercial for the Google Assistant with his wife Chrissy Teigen earlier this year.
