2018 is shaping up to be a big year for veteran comedian/sometime rapper Nora Lum a.k.a. Awkafina.
Over the last several months, the NYC native starred in a GAP commercial alongside SZA and Metro Boomin, and was cast in the upcoming Ocean’s 8 opposite A-listers Rihanna and Sandra Bullock as well as Netflix’s Dude and the feature film Crazy Rich Asians.
Now, she’s set to tell her own journey in an upcoming Comedy Central series, the tentatively titled Awkafina.
The LOL-inducing network is describing the half-hour pilot to be a “narrative inspired by Nora Lum’s experiences as a 20-something woman in Queens who strives for a larger than life existence.”

It’s also specified the show will include musical set pieces for story embellishment, presumably à la Empire, Star and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend all rolled into one. Her debut album, Yellow Ranger, was released in February 2014.
“With an exciting mix of established and emerging talent, our current development slate continues Comedy Central’s rich legacy of working with the most distinct and talented comedic voices,” Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, executive vice-presidents and co-heads of talent and development for Comedy Central, said in a press release.
