Troy Ave found himself at the center of controversy once again after the release of his “2 Legit 2 Quit” video. In the video, the BSB Records founder indicated that he’d testify against Hip Hop podcaster Taxstone, who was indicted for the murder of Ave’s bodyguardRonald “Banga” McPhatter. Social media responded by labeling Ave a snitch, but he disagrees with the criticism.

In a lengthy Instagram post listing off a variety of grievances, Ave defended himself and explained why he believes no can label him a snitch.

“Moral of the Story U could believe wat u want say wat u want etc. ion care bout u crabs in a barrel or ya hood mentality that ain’t gettin u nowhere in life,” he wrote. “#Facto the other side is Documented in court saying “It’s #TroyAve he’s the Bad Guy” As for me U can’t snitch on Video Tape, U can’t snitch on self defense #FreeTroyAve I’m innocent #FukTheOtherSide and whoever Love em cause “IF U WOULDNT PRAY 4 ME, SPRAY 4 ME, OR PAY 4 ME, IT AINT SHIT U COULD SAY 2 ME.”

Ave’s “2 Legit 2 Quit” arrived quietly in December via his White Christmas 5 mixtape. But when the video dropped last week, it made news and spawned social media outrage with its depiction of Ave testifying in court.

At the 57-second mark of the video, an animated version of Ave is seen taking the stand. “I’m only loyal to my fam/ Middle finger from the stand/ It’s either me or it’s you,” he raps, which prompted many people to label him as a snitch.
