Yams Day 2018 was supposed to be about celebrating the life of A$AP Yams, the A$AP Mob co-founder who passed away in 2015 from a drug overdose at the ripe age of 26. Instead, violence erupted during the Thursday night (January 18) show and the Bronx event was prematurely shut down.
Once the melee kicked off, videos soon started to circulate. Some concert attendees claimed there was a shooting, while others said controversial Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was stabbed. But the “Gummo” viral sensation quickly dismissed those rumors.

“It had nothing to do with me,” he said in a video. “I appreciate everybody’s thoughts … It had nothing to do with me. I wasn’t in no fight. My hair’s still laced. It’s permed. I got into no altercation. No fight. Nothing happened. You can see my face. I wasn’t shot. I wasn’t stabbed. Stop making up stories. Ya’ll want something to happened to me so badly. Like why so much hate in this world? Ya’ll niggas are so crazy.”
He concluded with, “It’s bigger than me.”
Tekashi then hit Instagram to reiterate that he had nothing to do with the altercation.
“This is not about me, it’s about YAMS,” he wrote in the caption. “People will always mix my name up with something. This is the internet and this is what comes with fame. All I can do is sit here and explain stuff to you guys. I had nothing to do with tonight’s disaster. I went live and posted it so you guys can see. THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME THIS DAY IS FOR YAMS.. Nothing but love and condolences to ASAP.”
Another clip shows A$AP Rocky, who was headlining with the rest of A$AP Mob, enveloped by a cloud of smoke as the crowd quickly disperses.
Meechy of Flatbush Zombies, who was also on the bill, took to Twitter to address the situation with one word.
“Disappointed,” he wrote.
Other artists on the bill included French Montana, G Perico, Playboi Carti, Da$h and ReTcH.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
Hip hop has a weird tightrope to walk. Violence is glorified in the music, rappers are called pussy and shunned if they’re not real, but when shit gets crazy in real life, they say they’re disappointed. I’m not saying any rapper is responsible for the gun shots today, but I’m not surprised this happened. Even if it was at an event honoring someones life.
there were no gunshots. no guns. just a fight
Ah. I saw that RapFest video (above) that said shots fired. Shouldn’t have assumed they were right. I still stand by the point, but at least it was only a fight
yea you’re right. hopefully the rest of 2018 will be better
what is this 2nd-coming-of-Stitches wanna-be Tekashi doing using the n-word? what is he, asian? white? both? …RIP Yams
u better goto harlem and tell all the puerto ricans to stop bro
Boricua! Morena! Boricua! Morena!
How come these things never happen at a Taylor Swift concert?
It’s too many white people bro
Das racisd mane
Das raciss mane
9 year old girls just ain’t violent
When all we do is rap about being under the influence of drugs bustin heads or cappin people for just looking at you wrong talking wrong or stealing from you yep sounds like a formula for healthy friendships
What’s your point , the 90’s were basically the same
My point is now theres SJWs
Difference between now and the 90’s…in the 90’s rappers owned it, they said what they were and somewhat lived by it. Today the rappers wanna be known as hard, but when shit goes down they become victims. Weren’t no victims in the 90’s hiphop scene crying. How you supposed to take they cats serious. They wanna talk all that talk and then call people racist for believing them.
What’s the Yams?
The Yams is the powers that be.
It’s all about pride (hubris), the bad kind of pride. Become humble and violence doesn’t happen. Everyone feels so disrespected. So f’n what if someone disrespects you. So then you kill them over looking at you the wrong way and then you’re in prison for the rest of your life for murder. Get humble and get rid of hubris.
Something about a concert full of tight pants wearers in the Bronx doesn’t sound right.
The stuff these fools spew out of their mouths is what causes this….. Be more upbeat instead of this down and out crap and you will see the difference in your fans.
Did you know that no Red Hot Chili Peppers concert has ever been shut down over violence in the band’s 20 year history?
Black lives matter to everyone except other black people. Black on black violence is worse than any other thing
