Houston, TX

Beyonce loves Houston, and Houston loves her back.

The 35-year-old living legend’s hometown was integral in defining the multi-platinum sensation that many know and love today. seeing that the NBA Houston Rockets franchise signifies a good chunk of the city’s infrastructure and culture, it only makes cents (O.K. a lot of cents) that she claim a stake in the ball club.

Reports from Bloomberg have recently surfaced allege that Queen Bey is considering investing in placing an ownership bid to purchase the franchise.

Rockets owner Les Alexander announced last month that he was putting the storied franchise (recipients of back-to-back championships in the mid-90s) for sale. Prospective buyers around the globe are reportedly interested in getting a piece of the action. Alexander paid $85 million for the ball club in 1993. Today, because of the popularity of the franchise in China thanks to former Rockets center Yao Ming, the club should sell for nearly $2 billion.

So far, there hasn’t been a response from Beyoncé’s publicist confirming or denying the claims. (The Houston Rockets also declined to comment.) As it stands, the team has had a busy offseason, trading seven players for All-Star guard Chris Paul in a blockbuster swap that will combine his talents with league MVP-hopeful James Harden next season. Trade talks to acquire Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony have also picked up steam.

H-Town DNA: Remember this one? Beyonce “been on” her Lone Star steez.

Having a slice of the pie that is an NBA franchise isn’t a new phenomenon for the Hip Hop power couple. In 2004, JAY-Z was a member of an ownership group, led by developer Bruce Ratner, that purchased the New Jersey Nets. He relinquished his ownership in 2013 to expand his plans for Roc Nation Sports. “Being a member of the Nets organization surpassed some of my greatest ambitions,” JAY-Z wrote in a letter posted to his Life + Times website. Later in the letter, he explained why he gave up ownership. “For Roc Nation Sports to function at its full potential, NBA rules stipulate that I relinquish my ownership in the Brooklyn Nets. It was a tough decision but as I stated earlier, it’s not about ownership,” he said.
