Since Gucci Mane’s release from an Indiana federal penitentiary on May 26, 2016, the unstoppable Atlanta rapper has churned out an extensive body of work that would seem like an impossible feat to most. But, of course, they’re not Gucci Mane. With multiple albums, a small arsenal of videos and seemingly endless collaborations, it’s natural to wonder if the tenacious artist ever sleeps.
Over the past 365 days, his musical output has been nothing short of staggering. His latest project, Droptopwop, was released at midnight on Friday (May 26) and features Metro Boomin on the beats. Considering 2017 isn’t even halfway over, there is presumably more coming down the pipeline. In the meantime, let’s break down the numbers on Gucci’s insanely productive year since wrapping up his nearly three-year bid behind bars.
1 — Number of #1 Singles On Billboard Hot 100
Gucci earned his first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as a featured artist on Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” which came out in September 2016. The video has garnered over 504 million views and catapulted all three artists to a new level of stardom.
39 — Number of Videos He’s Been In as Lead or Featured Artist
From his “First Day Out Tha Feds” video in July 2016 to his appearance in Runway Richy’s recent “Switchin Sides” visual, Gucci has made more videos in the last year than most people do in their entire career. His run even includes “Make Love” with Nicki Minaj, which finds the Hip-Pop star straddling an inflatable unicorn.
4 — Number of Years Gucci Has Been Drug Free
As recently as early May, Gucci has talked about his sobriety, which has presumably contributed to one of his most productive years yet. He got clean in prison and has apparently maintained a healthier lifestyle ever since.
7 — Number of Years Gucci Has Been With Fiancée Keyshia Ka’oir
Gucci finally proposed to his longtime girlfriend Keyshia Ka’oir during an Atlanta Hawks basketball game on November 22, 2016. He allegedly had a crush on her since 2010 when he asked her to be in one of his music videos. They’ve been together through thick and thin. Peep the proposal below.
2 — Number of Days Fans Waited For Droptopwop After Gucci Posted Tracklist On IG
Over the last week, Gucci readied his fans with his latest release, Droptopwop with producer Metro Boomin, by posting a handwritten tracklist on his Instagram account. He swiftly delivered the 10-track project around 48 hours later.
5,000,000 — Number of Instagram Followers
There’s no doubt this number will continue to grow the more famous Gucci gets (if that’s even possible), but for now, he’s well on his way to catching up to Rick Ross’ 6.6 million.
0 — Number of Clothing Items Released From His Delantic Clothing Line
Since Ka’oir teased his supposedly blossoming clothing company, Delantic, on May 27, 2016, the day after he took off the orange jail suit, nothing has materialized from the clothing line. So far, La Flare hasn’t been able to add “fashion mogul” to his resume just yet.
2 – Number of Studio Albums
Gucci has dropped two official studio albums over the past year, The Return Of East Atlanta Santa and Everybody Looking, which were both unleashed in 2016. Everybody Looking, which dropped in July, earned the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and marked his first project to hit #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
2— Number of Mixtapes
Including his new project with Metro Boomin, Droptopwop, the hardworking Gucci has dropped two mixtapes since his release from prison. The first one, Woptober, came in October 2016, bringing the total count to 72 since 2006’s Chicken Talk. Listen to Droptopwop‘s lead single below.
4 — Number of EPs
With his newfound freedom comes the ability to work with basically anyone he wants. Over the past 12 months, he’s released GucTiggy with Zaytoven, Free Bricks 2k16 (Zone 6 Edition) with Future and 1017 vs. The World with Lil Uzi Vert. However, 3 For Free, was straight Gucci, no chaser.
1 — Number of Clones (allegedly)
After Gucci was released from prison boasting a new set of chiseled abs and looking more fit than ever, a rumor began to circulate online that it was a Gucci clone. People speculated the real Gucci Mane was killed in prison and replaced with a government replica, especially after it appeared that his infamous ice cream face tattoo was gone.
37,717 — Number of Units The Return Of East Atlanta Santa Sold In Its First Week
Released on December 16, The Return of East Atlanta Santa sold 37,717 copies in its first week. The project landed in the #16 spot on the chart upon its debut and was streamed 22.5 million times. The video for “St. Brick Intro” has since been viewed nearly 11 million times.
1 — Number of HipHopDX Steve Lobel “We Working” Artist of the Year Awards
Back in December 2016, DX crowned Mr. Zone 6 with the Steve Lobel “We Working” Artist of the Year Award in the “Hardest Working Artist of the Year” category.
1,100,000 — Number of Times “First Day Out Tha Feds” Was Streamed in 24 Hours
Produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, “First Day Out Tha Feds” debuted on May 27, 2016 and accumulated 1.1 million SoundCloud plays in 24 hours with 900,000 of those incurred within the first twelve. He had reason to celebrate considering he was not only out of prison, but he was also able to make music in a studio again instead of a cold prison cell.
Godspeed Gucci. Godspeed.
GUUUCCCI !!!! Sssskkkkkrrrrrttttt !!!!
WOP! Much respect to a true artist who loves his craft. This guy has dropped more music in 1 week than most rappers drop in a year. Keep pushing my nig
I guess they call this music. The laziest bars and flow AND beat making I’ve have ever heard and I heard a bunch of tracks in my profession. I say that to say, flooding the market with cheap product doesn’t make the product good. It just means that we’re stuck with a lot low quality music. His reputation as a business man a solidify and he is indeed a certified G. But, let’s be honest, the music isn’t all that great neither is his rap skills. Leave it for the people who rap for real. There’s enough businesses out there you can invest your money on. That’s the problem with the industry today, we stop making lyricism a top priority in order to qualify as a rap artist. We’ve settled for the miodocre sound for the sake of hearing some kind of music. America is infested with poor quality artists, politicians, and even women. What has this country to?
I grew up in the 80s with all the oldschool rappers / producers and I have to disagree with you on the point where the beats are “lazy”. This new “era” of hiphop has brought so many sick beats from the likes of zay, metro and others.
Sure other aspects might be a bit worse, but I’m still enjoying it, it’s still hiphop.
hiphop dx act like this new…smh if anything wop taking it super easy if this was old gucci there would been a lot more projects
It’s new to me, so yeah, dope article. Plus it focuses on his year out of prison as a “new and improved” version of Gucci.
Dx getting they feelings hurt again lmao
i pinch a loaf everyday. if i recorded it, would an article get written by how much shit i drop?
That ain’t the real gucci. Seriously
Gucci was better when he was on drugs. His new shit is watered down.
Yo momma is so poor i seen her walk down the street kickin a can. I say watcha doin’? She say movin’
I am your momma dumbass. Now stop touching yourself and get out of the basement
Lame response. U suppose to follow up wit a yo momma joke, junior. Yo momma said stop those crispy socks
All this shit just make me want to do is take my team down to ATL and just drop some real shit then we run shit then we get the f out. If i find gucci im gonna put some acid in his koolaid or some crazy shit like dat
Where is the real gucci we all love and respect? The one that throws women outta cars wit a gun to her face at 90mph. Im givin up on hip hop. Goin full goth
Ok so Rick Ross rapped about druggin and rapin girls at the white house in front of a smilin’ michelle obama right after trump unleashed a worldwide grab the pussy operation. But still we miss ya gucci
Gucci has the 2Pac work ethic… the streaming era is made for em… he used to put out FREE material all the time.. now he is getting paid for it!
He also signed 2 artisits. They rep that PBG. Ralo and Jesse Is Heavyweight. FamGoon/Heavyweight. Gucci been KILLING in EVERY LANE.
Really wish lot of rappers had Gucci’s work rate you can argue quality over quantity but it aint much to ask for an album every year from Nas Jadakiss etc
DropTopWop is Album of the year….. I’m I said it already…… This shit waaay better than Kendricks DAMN and of course Drakes More Life and even better than Big Sean shit…. Yeah I said it… And whatever shit came out….. Guwop…….
