Los Angeles, CA

For the first time in years, the Bronx has a new voice carrying the torch for the venerable borough in HG Locks. The Hunnedgang-affiliated MC stopped by the HipHopDX headquarters to chop it up with #DXLive’s Trent, Marcel and Jake about his new music, his recent success and tearing down one of Hollywood’s hottest nightspots Bootsy Bellows with his close friend Fetty Wap. But as anyone that has ever taken a risk in life knows, a lot of lumps are taken before the success comes and HG opened up about one incident that almost made him quit the game before his career even got started.

“I got got about two, three years ago,” HG recalled. “Somebody sent something in an email to me about, it was a Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign tour so they sent it to me and everything, they were like ‘You’ve been selected to open up when they come to your city.’ Sent them some bread and all that, like close to a stack or something like that and [they said] ‘You’re good. You’re about to open up and everything.’ There was a whole little contract and everything. I was like ‘alright, this shit might go through.’”

After bringing his whole team out to the show, HG found out the hard way the gig was too good to be true.

“I got my whole crew we went out to Long Island. We got there, got through the first gate, gave ‘em my name got through the first gate I’m like ‘Alright this shit official.’ When I got there I’m like ‘I’m about to open up.’ I told them, they were lookin’ like ‘Yo, who are you?’” HG remembered. “I realized I got scammed and then I’m like ‘Ah shit’ and then Ty Dolla $ign pulled up on the little [golf cart]. Gave me dap.” That shit made me wanna quit almost but then [I realized] I’m buggin.’” Things are going much better these days for the young rhymer who played three blazing new tracks for #DXLive but it was that day that he learned one of the most important lessons of his young career.
