Today in Chicago the friends, family and fans of DJ Timbuck2 will gather at the Metro to pay their respects. Timothy Francis Jones, better known as DJ Timbuck2 passed away on December 19 from stage four renal cancer. He was 34 years old.

Timbuck2 leaves a legacy and an impact on the city that’s undeniably strong. Timbuck2 is embedded into hip hop history. He has worked with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Jay Z and many more. His passion and talent made him a favorite not only in Chicago but around the world.

One of his most notable accomplishments was Go-ILL radio on Chicago’s WGCI. On the show Timbuck2 exposed the city to new local artists that no one else was playing. He gave the up and comers an outlet to be heard and a lot of Chicago artist can say Tim is the first person that played their record. Timbuck2 also had a successful weekly party called Timbuck2uesday that has been going on for seven years.

“The whole purpose is to spread awareness about cancer” says Timbuck2’s friend and protégé DJ Boi Jeanius, “it’s going to be a dope ass party. People say Timbuck2uesday is based on the music and we’re sticking by that”.

Tonight’s event will include a silent auction, showcases from some of the best battle deejays as well as special performances and surprise guests. We’ve been told the surprise guest is one you don’t want to miss. The deejay lineup is insane, including Twilite Tone, DJ Pharris and Nonstop. It has also just been confirmed that Just Blaze will be closing out the night.

Tickets are sold out and all of the proceeds are going to Timbuck2’s family. One of Timbuck2’s brothers’ producer/DJ Mano used Twitter to express his gratitude to everyone who has shown their love for Tim.
