Compton community leaders Jacqueline Venters and Marlin Pettaway are putting on upcoming events aimed to better the Los Angeles community, one of which is called Unity in the Community.

Recently sitting down with HipHopDX News Editor Soren Baker, the two talked about why famous Hip Hop artists have come to their community and the impact it makes.

“Coming back into the community and sharing the gift that God gave you,” Venters said via a segment of today’s (December 3) DX Daily. “A lot of these guys grew up in the mean streets of Compton and for them to survive and become millionaires, I think it’s amazing for them to come back.”

Pettaway explained the importance of younger people being able to have dialogue with successful people from their area. He says it’s key for them in believing that success is possible.

“It’s one thing to hear about it but it’s a whole another thing to be able to see somebody and touch that individual and have an opportunity to dialogue with them on the patterns of success,” he said.
