The D.O.C. released his debut album, No One Can Do It Better, just before he had his vocal chords crushed in a 1989 car crash that essentially halted his solo Rap career. He didn’t leave music, though, and became a successful ghostwriter for several artists including Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
The D.O.C. was portrayed in the N.W.A film Straight Outta Compton. Dr. Dre and Suge Knight were shown visiting him in the hospital.
After The D.O.C.‘s appearance on Sirius XM’s “From The Press Box to Press Row,” fans started reaching out to him on Twitter Friday (August 21) and he confirms that he regained his original voice.

“It came back on its own,” he writes. “Had it almost a year. Came back while I was locked up. Why finally speak now? Why not.”
The Dallas rapper went to jail in 2010 after a third drinking and driving offense.
He retweets many congratulations and well-wishes and responds to some people.
